Re: S2 Town locations

The home marker distance indicator shows distance as if it were real-world distance, i.e. the square root of the sum of the squares of the X and Y distance. But for travel purposes, the direction makes a difference. You travel one tile diagonally in the same amount of time that you travel one tile horizontally or vertically.

So something that's 1.4k directly north-east is effectively only as far away as something 1.0k directly north or directly east.

Distance for travel purposes is effectively the largest of the X and Y distances, not the square root of the sum of the squares of the X and Y distances.

... of course, people often won't travel perfectly diagonally. If you don't, that makes the effective distance longer. In the worst case, you'll travel only horizontally and vertically, which makes the effective distance the sum of the X and Y distances.

So the practical effective distance will be somewhere between the largest of X and Y, and the sum of X and Y. The length of the hypotenuse is probably a reasonable estimate, since it's always going to be between those two distances.

Re: S2 Town locations

that's nice, so it goes outside NW, if you want to find old towns you need to go SE

eddie, yeah, you can calc easily distance based on coordinates, as the pythagorean triangle drawn from them has the diagonal as distance
best case scenario is diagonal, or straight
the home marker shows straight for diagonals over 1000 tiles, then it turns so if you got closer and can go left and right, at some point will turn from straight to diagonal or vice versa
tested on my route from casino town to painter town, was 4 k north and last 1000 tiles was NE, it showed straight nord until i was below 1000 tiles, so the angle is below 45 degree of a 1000x1000 square ? so its fine to go straight until the last 1000 tiles

Re: S2 Town locations

I was born in Nox town yesterday! There weren't any girls in town except me and my mum, yet on the mod it said I have like ten fertile relatives.

Later a guy came into our town on his horse, I asked him if he's from another city, he said "no, from a shithole". He was like my tenth cousin once removed and still had the tarr surname! He told me its north west, so I checked the unnamed camp later and yeah, It was uh... not as good as Nox. Very overpopulated and cluttered. Everyone there was my tenth/ninth cousin. I came back, and raised my babies in the town. Wanted to contribute to the towers but sadly, in the 60 minutes I had, none of them turned stable :/

Do any of these have bells? Haven't seen a bell in awhile.

Re: S2 Town locations

is there a specific way to find cities using these coordinates? I was that eve fire and I'd love to see what changed in 47 gens, but I'm not sure how to get back to check out the town, or if I'd recongise it.

Nox + Nyx both have bells + had working radios (until someone stole and hid the daniel cells.) Nox has two bells and Nyx had one last I checked.

You can put that in your game folder to know coordinates relative to where you are born. Wherever you spawn will be (0,0) so if you spawn in a location close to your old camp/city you can just walk over there. This is what I normally do to revive Nyx since Nox is about a ten minute walk or five minute ride by horse.

Mederos town (-53828,56425)

we should screenshot towns if you got AWBZ just zoom out and press "=" this creates a zoomed screenshot and doesn't show the cursor, and a bit better quality than a screenshot tool would do, only you need to convert tga to something to upload and view it, it gonna be inside the screenshots folder, we could make plans and leave info for others

honestly, the spot was nice, but the placement was shit

like the single kiln in mid desert, and was too hot already, too close to the oil spots, but they even put boards on it
first life i cut trough the bushes, which  also were on the green biome instead of the edges of desert, made 3 pieces of 3x3, that was recognizeable
the pen had a stupid airlock which was annoying to go trough, also was elongated shape, like 4x10 which is tons of walls wasted, a 6x6 is 36 tiles, has 28 walls
a 4x10 is 40 tiles, has 32 walls, not counting the dumb bell towers which would cover up the whole thing so if digged out you cant really repair it
then other life i made our first rubber, we were down to one girl due to famine, bear and general stupidity

that's how we got the pump well
then i came back hours later and like at 55 i found out that a chick had locked up knives and probably arrows too all along for hours
and the stupid people played a knife on a griefers hand who died somewhere and nobody made a single tire since, which is kinda dumb having that huge jungle around and having sulfur right next to city and the newcomemn was far away from the kiln but equally hot
so i made 2 new kilns even got a girl making charcoal, and left a few near the pump so it was ok setup but people stick to original not the oprimal

That's actually a good idea pein. Next time I'm in one of the big towns I'll start grabbing some screenshots so people know what a place is named/looks like.

No, it'll depend where you are on the spiral. It appears to be spiraling counter-clockwise; not sure you can determine the direction of spiral drift from one day's data. If the spiral is, say, at the 4:00 position on the clock, going SE will only get you more wilderness; you'd need to go NW (or more westerly, actually) in order to find older civs.

Good information about the home marker. I assume bell marks work the same.

well we had 2 days of data, we cannot talk about patterns, but for yesterday that was the case

no, it was a bell, as i was in casino town, got bored and wanted to see what lies in there, i think they work the same way, i would like to see some actual code, but its safe to assume it's the same. bells show the tile distance over 1000 tiles
home markers? not sure, i don't think so
bells are basically setting home markers for people so they are even simpler than home markers

Bells and home markers use the same code to determine which way the arrow should point.

I was just in Nyx my last life (followed bell there), and the radios were definitely working. So if daniel cells were missing new ones must have been made or the old ones were found.

Nox didn't have two daniel cells for the receiver but I made them so its ok now. Also rip town, server 2 is now dead again, few people.

Can you do this for the big server civs and note which ones have planes?
