Mini guide: what to eat (calories table, pips) /slightly outdated/

7A3p0lL.png
you start off as a baby, 0 age
each minute you get 1 year older
you got 2/4 bars at start and lose one bar every 2.5 to 20 seconds based on your temperature

overeating is when you eat more calories than your food bar, which is wasting food, making others work harder, or starve sooner
you food bar goes up 1 each year, at 0 you got 4 bars, at 3.5 years you got 7, you grow hair, you can eat on your own but for 2 minutes you can still be fed by your mother
at 6 you can no longer be breastfed-ed, so you need to eat on your own, if your mother busy, you should eat on your own from 3.5 year old

you become adult at 16 and until 42 you got maximum food bars
considering you become hungry at 4 bars left, you need to calculate max-4 to be higher than your food bar, actually your age is same as the food value

food value is the pips the food fills each time you eat it, there is an invisible +2 bonus to food, so calories/pip value are food value+2

italic: only to keep up yum chain, this foods are rare to come by, needs a whole life of dedication and respect their work by not eating it repeateadly

yum bonus is an extra invisible food bar, which is 5 seconds each time you consume different food
currently 36 different food types, you cannot produce all this types alone in one life
a yum of 36 would mean that if  you got some clothes and don't go into extreme temperatures, would last 5-6 minutes

spending your time to find yum, is a full job, so generally you will be unproductive if you do so, if you want to be realistic, check how much of this you can  find easily

a yum of 10, naked, lasts around 50 seconds, then you can restart the process, breaking a combo is bad, spending more time to find bonus, than your bonus time, is worse
most easy route: berry, berry bowl, pop corn, bread, pie, cactus, carrot, omelette
with some setup you can have multiple pie types, stew, sauerkraut, bean burritos
if you don't care about yum, you can still be effective making pies and bread

1st category wild food berry, onion, burdock, wild carrot, cactus plenty in early stages and far away from cities
mushroom is hardly a food and it takes a few hours to produce
2nd category domesticated ready to eat food using plates or bowls: green bean, shucked corn (waste on calories if you don't let it dry),  carrot, berry bowl, berry
3rd category requires fire/ashes, plates or bowls, flat rock, maybe bow, skewers:popcorn, omelette, bean burritos, cooked rabbit and goose
4th category requires oven to be cooked, possibly sheep pen, hunting rabbits, carrot and berry farm: 8 types of pies, mutton meat, baked potato(shovel nerf made this very bad)
5th category requires crock, fields planted and maybe extra equipment like stones, bucket, salt water, stomper, kraut board, fire: stew, sauerkraut
6th category requires knife: mango, bread, buttered bread
7th category, requires a lot of setup and hardly worth it cause unsustainable(requires worms or limestone), even forge, planting rose: fish, bean and pork tacos
8th category requires cow pen, extra buckets, knife: milk, skim milks, buttered bread

By calories do you mean food bars? Because irl a calorie is 1/3500th of a pound of fat. lol xD

well you got to name somehow, pips, food bars, empty boxes. the number of them should be lower than the pip value

8 types of pie in the oven, pein. Berry, carrot, berry carrot, rabbit, berry rabbit, carrot rabbit, berry carrot rabbit, mutton. But you knew that, probably just a typo.

yeah somehow i forgot rabbit pie, but yeah 1 by 1, 2 by 2 and all tree plus mutton

technically the trio pie is wasting resources, and the berry combos too

By wasting, do you mean because the large food value is inefficient at feeding people? Because a bowl of berries, a carrot and a rabbit (if cooked) is a grand total of 47 food pips, while a berry carrot rabbit pie is 80 food pips. (Admittedly, with the invisible +2, this one will always waste food; you can't get down to zero, and each piece gives 20 bars!) That's about a 70% increase in available food from making the pie; even if some is wasted, it's still a boost.

Berry pie is not so great, only a 33% increase (40/30). Carrot pie is very good: 300% increase in food value (28/7)!

Berry carrot = 60/37, 62% increase
Berry rabbit = 72/40, 80% increase
Carrot rabbit = 72/17, 324% increase
Rabbit pie = 56/10, 460% increase
Mutton pie = 60/12, 400% increase

Looking at these numbers, it appears that the best pies are, in order: Rabbit, mutton, carrot rabbit, and carrot. They all have very good food gains, and the values of the individual servings aren't so large as to be super-wasteful, if you're careful.

Those don't take into account the opportunity cost, of course. Some pies might be better avoided and the dough used to make bread, instead. That isn't calculated in these values, because every pie you make has to be weighed against that possibility. Of course, you need a knife for bread, so it won't always be a factor. But if you want, increase the denominator in each of the above by 16 (2 slices of bread) and recalculate. Obviously that makes berry pies totally not worth it (40/46 = -15%), but the rest are still viable.

OneTech also says berries are 3 calories (food pips, whatever), but they give 5. There's a +2 bonus applied by the server.

i would agree but based on experience its a bit different
lot of camps still use the same plates and bowls the eve made, or maybe one more set, and people leave empty plates outside, i can understand i would leave an empty plate for an extra iron, but no reason why would anyone leave it in savanah, when they dotn even bring back snares
often  i just cook rabbit on skewers cause mutton is plenty as side effect, also eggs feel bad plate usage as they give one serving, even if its max value
when making baskets and hats, and too much compost at once without extra wheat field, equals a lot of treshed wheat, which is 90% of time means bread making, 10% well burritos, which kinda needs a setup of 1 fire, 13 flat rocks(so you can lay 12 dough on it and cook it after the 3 bean bowls) and some plates

a popcorn station needs to be  further so they dont eat the shucked corn ears early, after axe totally doable in the other side of the desert where you got tons of cut stumps
we should do some feeding areas, main reson berry is easy cause its like a table, all tiles are food
we should make 3x3 wooden tiles with food on it, have corn in basket and just put in bowls and into fire
corn is best against overeating, as kids get scared of beeping sound and eat, small bites of popcorn got a chance of wasting 1-2 pips, with berry is 2-4, i think it would make a difference

ofc that is not enough baskets and not enough bowls/plates

and people dont think like, oh we got axe, we can keep a fire going lets make a popcorn station

gotta experiment with burito, green beans and corn and post sceenshots

One of my tasks when I'm scouting near town is to bring back bowls, plates, or tools that have been left where they're inconvenient. Once I found something like 30 rabbits that had been laid out, a partial pie, snares... they were about 30 seconds from town and nobody seemed to know they were there. Rabbit hunter and backpack maker became my job that life.

well no extra pictures, i just picked off some corn in a camp and cut it, people not knowing what it is, left it alone
based on the emergency plan failure, even the best of them was wasting food, so that corn didn't do much, but still better than berry i guess
the real benefit however was the yum, and the part that they realized there is no food, which means there is some left but really need to look for it, my mom was the overly attached baby machine who kept everyone alive, even with feeding berry to the babies not knowing temperature

so the moment they realized there is barely any food left, the smarter ones jumped on production, scavenge, and when mom made the popcorn, it was an event of action, interaction and something they wont really forget as we started teaching and they started following us, so diversify and extend , if they take it for granted, they wont learn or care, if they are in trouble, they much more likely to take action
