Watchtowers, Guard towers and telescope for larger view

I personally find the view fine as it is, it forces to go scouting to survive and there is a real danger that makes it challenging as opposed to seing where every ressources is and just heading in the direction where you know in advance there will be food.

But in late game it can be annoying to run around the village to find the only shovel at the other end because someone used it to bury bones and even if you make ten shovels or other tools they always end up scattered around.

Watchtowers and guard towers could increase the view of anyone that goes into it, making it able to have a good view of the village where are all the tools, ressources and what everyone is doing, it could also increase the range of the bow, plus the guard towers would look nice in a medieval castle setting.

For a more portable way to increase view a telescope could be crafted (not as big view as the towers) with steel and glass for example, glass could be made from extracting sand from soil or clay in a crockpot with water or found in the desert

There could also be a combination of equipping the telescope and going into a tower that would increase the view even more.

Edit: Rectification, fertile soil probably doesnt have enough sand in it to be usable, maybe puting cut stones in a windmill that  crushes the stones could give sand.

The windmill could be a multiple generation construction that requires different stages to be stable like the bell tower, only very advanced villages would have one

Constructing a watchtower should be a multi generation project, so griefers don't build them everywhere to shoot at people from afar.

Default view is currently unrealistically myopic. We should have 20/20 vision which requires doubling the current view.
I do like the idea of a telescope though! Give it 3x view.

@SirCaio it could be single or multiple generation project, i dont think griefers would be too much of an issue since you would be an easy target in a tower, also shooting from the tower and the larger range for the bow would be an optionnal addition although a nice one smile

Maybe if there was watchtower possible. Maybe nerfing it so, that players have to watch two different maps while inside the tower, the bigger map and the map inside the tower. Perhaps letting two man to accompany the tower, even letting third player "griefer" to pop in to test their security.

Re: Watchtowers, Guard towers and telescope for larger view

I like this idea as it could even be solved quire easily both server and client side. Sending way bigger, but "static" (the same size & location) part of map should not be a problem resource wise as long as guard towers were expensive. It would also not matter latency-wise for bigger chunks of data as you're already immobile. Even if the vision stayed the same or just slightly bigger but if you could slide the screen fast - that would solve the "to small to see" element as well (and the "stretching"/"resizing" paranoia Jason has).
