Mini Guide: temperature /updated /2019.jun.10

Its a reference of basic knowledge which is important to my other guides

Temperature meter is on the right side bar, shows the current  temperature
This determines how much you need to eat
Ideally you need to be on middle temperature

ice is too cold, desert and jungle too hot, don't stand on those tiles, don't talk standing on it, don't put babies on those tiles

Temperature can cut down the food consumption so you need to spend your time working on good temperature, towns sticking into ice/jungle/desert will waste food and lead to accidental deaths

Middle temperature is 4 times better, which means a baby can grow up with 3 feedings only
right now you can create middle temperature by:
making a 1x5 room with a fire on left, the right side 4 from fire will be medium if all doors closed
2 fire 2 space between, diagonal from the fire inner side the 4 tiles will be medium, uses extra firewood

in comparison to every 5 sec per food bar in green biome, which is scary for new players, especially on lag, and not enough time to work while raising a baby, even lower in ice, desert or jungle so keep walkign out then talk ad put baby down

Making a fire on desert will be too hot, even near it, same for jungle
actually on side of ice tile can be better than on normal biome, as ice tile is cold so the fire will be closer to medium
if you can find an ice hole, you can fish or use a net during baby raising

Keeping up a fire from branches is not viable, using fire to raise babies only after you got an axe, or you make smithing much harder
Also large fast fire is not the same as large slow fire
is much hotter, last 1 minute and babies starve faster on it
don't put 2 kindling on hot coals, don't put kindling on small fire

walls insulate if the room is fully enclosed
so walls and doors in closed state
springy doors always close in seconds
walls reduce the heat of hor biome or increase the heat of cold biome
rooms on ice are not viable
rooms on desert or jungle can be good just don't put door on desert side and don't put fire inside room
will be hot as a fire without a fire, but not too hot
rugs further decrease the heat

As a mother, you can stay in perfect spots and that increases chances having a kid, as a man give warm clothes to mothers if need more babies, pack and apron is enough for you
yum also helps, the first baby goes to the mom with highest yum and best temperature
suicide babies reset your cooldown if you picked them up once at least so try pick them up and ask if they stay
if you are a baby let them pick you up before suicide or they get 1.8-5 min of infertility
your goal is not to have max yum or have 10 babies
more females work better than less with higher yum
too many females also bad
in case of 3 fertile females and 4 girl kids you might want to make outpost or run out of city to make new camp cause food will get scarce when they grow up

As a baby stay on a perfect spot, rather than running around, cause lot of players know the timing and if you move, your temp bar changes and you will need much more feedings

As a mom tell them to say f when hungry and step out on side
if they step out up/down they need to cool down
you can do a /hubba emote, if you cant measure time
babies lose a pip in like 18-20 sec in fire so each pip will go down kinda same time until your eyebrow animation finishes

edit: temp run wont work anymore as it checks for the tiles temperature every short period (was an old mechanic where only the tile temperature mattered and tiles released heat, edges of biomes were colder than center so only your starting tile mattered, you could run without stopping and you didn't lost temperature)

the temperature is calculated on 13x13 around the player including all heat sources, fire, coals, firing forge, ovens
you are the center of the 13x13 so 6 tile in all directions will be measured
if those tiles got walls, then this is cut smaller so you gain a bit more heat from fire, if the room is closed (doors are shut, walls connect)
same way the fire has a range, cause if you are close to fire, the fire is close to you
it's called radiant heat
this is same inside and outside, basically 7/10 in middle of fire, around 4/10 the rign around fire, the next ring 2 tile from fire is very low, maybe 1/10

the bonus heat only applies in closed rooms but because the fire works same way, the radiant heat adds up, the fire seems to be a fixed 2.5 heat  divided by the number of tiles, that's why you get perfect heat in a room of 1x5 size (as in tutorial room) because the fire range is 3-4 tiles but the 5th tile is only the bonus, the bonus applies to other tiles too but the radiant heat adds into it

so one fire in one room will never give a decent bonus in current form
if you got a decent 5x5 room, the bonus of 2.5 heat divides into 25 which is 0.01 per tile

jason had some changes so the walls can be further, the floors give a bit more heat, havent tested fully
also the enclosed room gives indoors status if all it's true
right now rooms are mostly for aesthetics, they still wont worth time and effort

hot rooms made on jungle seem to worth it any size, as they very close to medium temp without fire

Temp OP. I love when I see babies temp walking.

I often temp walk as a baby to taunt my Mom into feeding me cool

Been trying to teach people this or months. So frustrating when you see Eves/Moms not using desert to raise kids and you're too young to tell them properly.
