Re: The decay update is perfectly fine, it's players that are wrong

There's no way to advance.  No way to survive without luck.  Skill has nothing to do with it...  Unless we all just abandon our kids and play by ourselves.  At least we can keep a carrot farm going that way.

But that's it, really.  We can advance enough by ourselves to make pies.  Maybe, if we're lucky, a forge.

I don't think the problem is with the update (though I do dislike it a great deal.  Moreso since it came after the apoc9update, which makes me think Jason himself wanted to start from scratch.  Not a bad thing, just sudden).  The new players aren't reading the forums.

Rule 1:  Don't pick the milkweed until it's fruiting.
Rule 2: Leave tools where you found them.
Rule 3: Ask which is the carrot seeding row.
Rule 4:  DON'T PICK THE SEEDING ROW.
Rule 5:  Do not over-populate.  Especially with girls.
Rule 6:  Don't dig wild carrots.  They don't respawn.  Ever.
Rule 7:  Don't cut down all trees.  Just the useless ones.
Rule 8:  New Eve doesn't have time to chat.  Shut up baby.
Rule 9:  Don't over eat.  You're wasting resources.
Rule 10:  Learn who is new and TEACH THEM.
Rule 11: Almost forgot.  Only eat picked carrots.  If none are picked, die.

NEW RULE: Don't make too many baskets.  I don't think the servers can handle that much coding for trash. Lmfao

The problems persist because there's no time to teach, but you can tell them to follow you.  Tell them to watch you.  This way, if They're smart, they'll learn.

Yes, this update is shit, but we can work through it.  Make less baskets.  Employ a trash collector.  We can make it work for us.

Needs for a successful village:

1. Farmers - For Carrots
2. Rabbit trappers - For pie and clothes
3. Bakers - For baking pies.
4. Smith's- For creating tools.
5. Tailors - For making clothes.
6. Fire Attendents/Nurse Maids - To monitor population
7. Milkweed Harvesters - So milkweed isn't picked early
8. Trash collectors/Grave collectors - For organization
9. A Guard - For bears and the occasional troll.
10. Resourse Collector - For clay and soil (mostly soil)
11. Town Crier/Scout - To keep everyone 'In the know.'
12: A Mayor - To designate jobs

Number 11 isn't really necessary, but it's always nice to have advanced warning on bears, trolls, and which row is seeding on the farm.  It will also allow everyone to know if all jobs are being filled.

And keep in mind that farms will have to expand.  I would suggest that, if it comes to it, thinking about two carrot farms.  Everyone should keep an eye on the berry bushes.

Anyhow, these are all the common things the new people aren't aware of.  So make them aware.  Leaving knowledge behind is every bit as important as leaving an oven or forge.  Leaving knowledge, in my opinion, is the greatest inheritance you can give to your children.

You skipped the most important rule:

RULE 0: There are no rules. Stab people saying otherwise.

This is useless baiting. Weak attempt.

Only eating picked carrots isn't a hard rule, since some times people do need help farming, otherwise things can get bad. Especially if the person who was farming died for whatever reason.

What am I baiting? I'm just illustrating that a bunch of people on here predominantly care about how they are perceived by others, and people should beware as this type of behavior is very negative.
If you don't want to discuss that it's fine. I've redacted any names, as this should allow open discussion without pointing fingers and putting blame.

Putting on unacceptably high expectations on new players and then calling them bad names, whenever it's convenient, is the wrong way of doing things and it makes the game and community uninviting.
If the game doesn't get new players it's going to die out eventually - is that what you're trying to accomplish?

Go on ahead. Read your post again. People pissed cause people come in
and fuck up their whole shit down to almost nothing in mere minutes.

They replicate and consume like locusts. Is this not true?

Little snippets here and there like you are quote mining them.. It is
weak ass level baiting, trying to get a mass of people to hate on the
people who set up their villages..

You are just stirring the pot trying to make people saltier..

But NO.. that isn't it at all is it? You are "JUST" a sweet little angel
showing off the evil people who set up a village and are upset that
it got fucked up SOOOO FAST. Busybody ass, moral policing people.

Again weak bait, seems ill intentioned even. No even hint of solution
or idea only mudslinging. Redacted my fucking ass you can go back
into the discord and search for the quotes.

"Just Illustrating".... sure.

"Just Illustrating".... sure.

Do read my post again.
The discussion is with people who say new players should be taught and the game provides all the tools to build a village with said new players in mind.
Same people go into full salt mode when their secluded heaven is "infested" by new player "noobs" and have no solution or way of handling them and suffer heavy losses.

I do have a solution, I've presented it many times before, just like others - this is not what this is about.
This is about showing the true face of the people saying that the the problem lies within the players. I could have been in their shoes, I've made plenty of mistakes - everybody does.

If I merely wanted to cause drama and "bait" - I could have said names here. That's not what this is about, this isn't personal, it's about finding the best way on moving forward.

If I have to repeat myself fine - the solution is fixing the game code, not the players.
I'm not saying this has to happen right now, or how exactly it has to happen (though I've supplied possible fixes I personally think would be adequate either as temp or permanent solutions) - it can even happen via a mod - the point is to make more people recognize or at least consider that that this is not a problem caused by "new players".
Why? Because it's derailing discussion on a completely meaningless tangent.
New players are not a problem, they are the life-force of games. They are the blood. Fighting against them is suicide.

I called "drama" because I couldn't figure out what point you were trying to make and you could've just done it without calling people out.

Does the code need fixing?  Yes.
Are people hypocritical and shitty in general?  Sure.
Do you need to get specific on who was being shitty and how?  Unless it affects you directly... generally no.

I fully agree.
But I haven't directly called out anyone, been specific and neither did I intend to.
Obviously presenting evidence helps further my point and impact, but I don't need or want to implicate anybody else.

Did I need to present better initial clarification to my point? Yes
Where my methods not perfect? Quite likely

Does seeds on wild carrots still respawn? For couple of days I thought They give one seed per bush and then never respawn. If so, whats respawn time?

Re: The decay update is perfectly fine, it's players that are wrong

While durability is always a risky design move, sometimes it works.  The way it is implemented in this game at this moment is not one of those times.  I think adding the ability to repair and maintain items would change it from simply annoying to fun, but I believe that containers degrading is a bad idea.  This game sits on a grid, and has one object per grid slot.  The grid is very largely spaced.  Container items help make up for this space issue, but it is a bit clunky.  Still the overall charm of the game compensates for the interface shortcoming... until now.  Now you have a situation where you have containers full of items that need to be replaced with new containers and that means find the space to take everything out and put it into another container.  Also once everything is out of the decaying container, you have a decayed container object eating a grid slot that needs to be dealt with.  Effectively, the game currently feels like grid management, the game.  This isn't a challenge, it is just annoying.  Repairable items would go a long way towards making the decay feature positive, though I'm sure there are other means of tuning the situations.

That said, I do very much like the tilling and compost updates and how there are tiers to the hoe.

After looking at the crafting guide, it looks like wild carrots do not respawn seeds.

You should see my hand-written notes from the design meeting where I was discussing this stuff with my designer friends.  It had a list just like this.  Here was my rough list of roles that a village would need:

--Farmer
--Composter
--Smith
--Prospector
--Herder
--Knitter
--Wagoneer
--Woodworker
--Worm Gathererer

My friends, as a joke, added these to the end of the list:

--Griefer
--Chain Smoker

The point of this update was that before, NONE of these roles needed to exist except for Farmer.  There were smiths in the past, to get a village off the ground, but after that, their forges lay dormant for generations.

I want the current generation of smiths tranining the next generation of smiths.

Decay is good. The rate and balance of decay is not (feels unfinished in my opinion)
What was limited before now is even more limited (resources like metals).
Broken things stay broken forever laying somewhere (no disposal implemented).

If Jasons is working on these issues, then everything gonna be okay at some time. And some stoned cities will rise.

If not, last changes will make game harder to pick up and learn for new players, that leads to bad marketing, less revenue...bad business strategy.

If in beginning I was hyped about Jason as game developer, now when I am getting better feel of him I BELIEVE (just my opinion) that dis balancing or  braking the game will be recurrent event at the expense of the players. After all, he did stated quit clearly, HE WILL TRY GAME BREAKING THINGS...

Is specialization efficient though? Is it worth the time it takes to tell everyone that there's a farmer/trapper/wagoneer now, and that anyone else doing the same thing will be wasting their time? Or the time it takes to tell everyone where to take the stuff they need from the specialist, and how not to disrupt their work?

I dont think specializing is the best idea. Ive seen that when they die noone takes their place. See something needs done do it.

add support to it, like family tree pressing tab, show alive persons, titles, not by calling it, by making it, for example 10 basket= basketeer, can be many but the most common thing he/she did shows first

add kills to it, to know who to avoid

and at least, calculate some free time cause organizing a town takes time and others need to feed you

players should have liberty of 20 minutes to do whatever as they teached a kid on the role, i just drop them near the farm, i give them a name, then if others want raise it, hard to teach anyone when city dies out so easy
