#2 Re: Main Forum » Randomizing tool breakage? » 2018-04-25 20:51:47

Could we have two separate outcomes?

a) There is a 3% chance that steel ax become steel ax with broken handle. Once we pick it up we can remove the handle and replace it.

b) There is a 0.5% chance steel ax is broken for good and can't be repaired.

AND/OR

The item the tool is used on determines the chance of getting broken.

a) Steel ax that is used on branches has 1% chance to break. (While it is 2.5% for stone hatched)
b) Steel ax that is used to cut down a tree has 3% chance to break.

This can also be a universal function of hardness (or any other property) of the item vs the material the tool is made. (Yay more complexity!)

The whole reason why I even bought this game was because I liked original concept.  There is no time for role playing lineage anymore, which was the main reason most people are even interested in the game.  You can't hand down anything to your kids.  Your contributions to the village are laughable at best, and annoying at worse.  How many times have I had to work around broken wheelbarrows and carts  that can't be moved.  How many baskets do I have to shuffle around so I can replace them with new?

I bought the game for the same thing as you. Build a colony that will grow and get bigger. Now everything destroys itself.

P.S.
That was me that killed off that village. Don't ring the dinner bell next time it makes me hungry for slaughter. Plus no point building anything anyway just to see it turn into FLOPPY garbage. So i have shift my focus to exterminating everyone that is not of my tribe. You will not eat my berries. You can not have any of my reeds. I need them for "basket crafting simulator" I purchased.

So you bought this game because you thought this was ANOTHER colony building game. And now you realize it is not you feel entitled to disturb other people. If you are so frustrated with its current state why don't you just play something else while this is sorted out, and come back a month later, instead of bothering other players?

I disagree as well. Give your mothers a chance. I had plenty of Eves who managed to keep me and my siblings alive, and set up a successful camp for us to build upon.

I born to an Eve who just spawned. She stood there for a few seconds (map loading?) then ignored me, grabbed some clay and ran off. I can understand ignoring the baby but why clay?

And once the Eve didn't know she could breastfeed me and tried to feed me berries on every stop. As I tried to explain it one letter at a time, she grabbed a burdock that was already dug and shoved it into my mouth :D She managed to keep me and herself alive though.

What did your novice mothers do?

I like the changes but I don't think these were intentional:

1) Looks like we can't make steel hoe out of steel hoe blade yet.
2) Ponds provide the same amount of water but one of the sprites repeats and the last one before we dry the pool looks different.

To the Mary clan (especially my kids Robin, Marian, Ariel, Eric, Hercules and Belle, and my grandchildren), I hope some of you see this. I was Hope, and I had a great time running around all over the place with you lot and all convening back at the original farm eventually. I'm surprised we didn't all get lost. Mother, I'm glad I got to see you again and say goodbye before you died. I hope you weren't too mad at me for taking the kids you told me not to keep and running off with them. They all turned out very helpful, and we left the farm in a good way when I left. Sorry for dying so suddenly, kids, I had to go, and when I saw my hunger bar at one, I just left it. Glad I got to see my granddaughter just before I went. Hope you all make it through multiple generations.

Hi mom, it's Robin. Everyone either left or died because I died at the age of 60, alone.

P.S. I finished making the saw and carts, not that they are going to be any use.

Not exactly what you ask for but I'd recommend having a secret farm for seeds in a separate spot.

We arrived your camp with while I was still in mother's arms. You welcomed us and said, "I'm alone here. Come I have pies".

After you passed away my mother had two more boys. Then she disappeared.

As three brothers, we tried to live up to your legacy and keep the camp alive and we made lots of pies big_smile

Then we searched for an Eve, I found one, but unfortunately, she didn't survive the trip back to our camp.

When we started to accept that we were it. We planted the seeds but did not water them. We made pies more than we can eat in our lifetime, just like you did.

Then I heard a cry. An Eve with her baby was in our camp! I told them we arrived just like them and stayed alive thanks to your pies and farm.

Thank you old hermit!

Thanks for the input everyone.

I believe separating non-griefers from griefers is one of the issues that we need to solve along with managing farm, population etc. Imagine you found someone with a bloody knife, there is a bow and arrow close by. You go and pick them up. When you return to the scene the culprit is still carrying the knife but not chasing others.

We can ask them to drop the knife. If they don't then it is clear that they are a griefer. Shoot them.

Then we can ask what was the reason to kill that person. Responses could include:

a) The person I killed was a griefer (Take the knife and let them live?)
b) It was a mistake (Don't take the risk and kill? I guess it depends on the size of the town and how much we might need that person in case they are telling the truth)
c) The person I killed was just eating but not contributing (According to whom, maybe they were contributing as much as they could and also learn from others, this shouldn't be a good reason to kill a person. So I'd try to teach the killer why they should not do that again)
d) The person I killed picked a berry from a full domestic gooseberry bush or picked milkweed at the wrong stage (They should have tried to teach them instead of killing, so same as (c))

The list could go on. However, there is not much time to think and act in the best possible way in these situations. So I think we should come up with a system for handling cases like these beforehand.

How would you handle such cases? Can you think of any system that would minimize the loss of progress?

First of all, I'd like to apologize to the player whose character I accidentally killed.

While I was trying to put away the knife to feed myself, I killed my son who just moved to the empty spot. I shouted mistake right after but it was not seen by anyone because everyone was looking at the bloody knife in my hand. I have not killed anyone before so I was a bit dumbfounded, I didn't think of the consequences of that mistake. A few seconds later a lady with a bow and arrow shot me without any warning.

I was a contributing member, made clothes for a few people and I was still young to have babies. I could still be valuable. I immediately thought they should have given me a few seconds to explain myself. Though, after a few minutes, I realized, considering that a griefer alone could undo what a dozen people build, why would they take the risk?

Maybe we don't have the luxury to ask "why you killed them?" at this stage of the game, or do we? What do you do when you see someone with a bloody knife?
