Oh boy Jason made another fix for eve spawns!  I can’t wait to read all of the comments in this thread that are definitely related to the fix and/or eve spawns!  The one thing I love about the forums is how relevant and on topic it stays!

#2 Re: Main Forum » Is Jason tired of OHOL? » 2021-05-22 20:13:47

Relax.  It takes a good 4 days of constant driving to get from California to New Hampshire.  It literally takes more than a week to get from the old house to the new one.  Not to mention any days spent packing at the old house, and unpacking at the new one.  If he made 2 or 3 trips, this might be a whole month affair.

#3 Re: Main Forum » Found the issue with Eve placement » 2021-05-03 16:13:47

Would this mean that families who resettle old towns, wouldn’t be able to open up any new iron mines now, if each family just has one homeland total?

Do you see black letters above your name?

The only black letters that show up above one’s name would be waypoints on the UI such as after someone uses the command “/leader”, gives an order to their followers, touches a way stone, sets a home marker, or a bell is rung somewhere in the world.  However, these possibilities are more than likely not what you mean by “black letters above your name”.  This is because, while they may indicate that other players are in the world somewhere, none of these are easy reference points to go off of to determine if one is in Donkey Town.  There are many other easy reference points to use, such as as black text box appearing above one’s head with white letters, saying something similar to “X GHOST WOMAN X”.  This is because this text above your head is a curse name, which will only show up above your own character while you are in Donkey Town.  As stated by the official One Hour One Life wiki: “It is not possible to curse yourself, even in another life.”  This means that it is physically impossible to see a curse name above your own character, due to the fact that you need to curse someone to see their curse name outside of Donkey Town.  Viewing your own curse name would be an easy sign to check if you are in Donkey Town, and much more efficient of your time than to wait for someone else in the world to possibly ring a bell, due to the fact that way stones do not exist near Donkey Town.  Also because this player is confused as to if there are even other players on currently, it shouldn’t be expected of them to wait for a bell to ring.  Therefore, I am not sure why you would wait for coordinates to appear in Donkey Town, when the much faster and easier option is to look for a curse name.

#6 Re: Main Forum » why do i keep being reborn in the fink family? » 2021-03-26 02:47:58

If you had children, you will be born to one of them, or their descendants in your next life.  If you were male or a childless woman, then you will be born to a niece or one of their descendants next life.

/die or live a tutorial life to break the chain.  There is a chance you will spawn in the family again, so just keep /dying until you are out of it.

It's been... quite an interesting year to say the least!  To celebrate my first anniversary with this game, here is a top 5 list of the best and worst content and mechanics added in the past 365 days!

BEST:
1. Sprinkler + Plow - An amazing new meta that takes us into the industrial revolution, and is a great idea for conserving water!  They completely changed town dynamics in a good way!  The only problem with them is that the vanilla screen is way too small compared to sprinkler pipes and plow lines, so vanilla players almost never use them, because they can't see them.

2. Paver - A useful addition that brings us one step closer to the possible future of the trailer!  Paved roads make the world look and feel more developed, like we are getting closer to the future!

3. Cravings - They actually make all of the different foods useful in a fun kind of way!

4. Delivery Truck - It's so nice to be able to haul a lot of things and go at high speeds.  Definitely a needed addition, now that there is an oil and engine dependency.

5. Cucumbers - Not very exciting themselves, but more edible crops are always fun!  Plus it's another skewer crop, so tomatoes aren't alone anymore.  Even though their only craftable use is pickles, making a batch uses 12, so they don't take up too much space.

WORST:
1.  Homezone - Biggest blow to the freedom we used to have ingame.  Multiracial towns were so much fun, and they actually made the race biomes update work because everyone played their part to better the town, with their own abilities.

2. Iron only being in mines - Making iron limited at the cost of food and other resources, made things more systematic and less free or fun.

3. Scrapping Engines - Just why?  This has no reasonable purpose.  Never have I been in a town where there's no iron, but too many engines.  I have however been in a town that badly needs an engine to survive, but all 3 that took 30 minutes each to make, were scrapped in 30 seconds each.

4. Dill - It has one use, pickles, which only uses 1 per batch.  Practically useless.  Just clogs up towns with seeds.

5. Garlic - Only 2 uses, and only stacks in piles of 5.  Also the wild version is edible, while the domestic is not, tricking people into planting the very rare wild garlic, which is also a common craving, and realizing they can't do anything with the useless bulbs.

#9 Re: Main Forum » So /Die Just Seems To Get Worse and Worse » 2021-01-27 21:30:55

Getting rid of the race mechanics would get rid of the problem mostly.  I'd love to be leader every life, and I do everything I can to raise gene score, but then I want to dye clothes and either have to beg at the desert town for 15 minutes for someone to hopefully get me an alum, or I can just /die there.  Then I sometimes have to /die even more depending on what color I want.  Yellow, green, and black all require me to be brown.

#10 Re: Main Forum » How to become Eve? » 2021-01-26 17:32:16

Lots of things have changed to remove the freedom that the game once had.  You don't have the freedom to start your own town, or colonize, or have babies anywhere, or waste water.  The game is now more of a cycle to complete, and see what kind of story comes from this system that Jason has made for us, instead of a truly free experience.

But what about when all the wolves have been shot?  Is it just the ‘Zone’?

Please Jason, I must know.  On onetech, they are listed as badlands, but badlands look like this!

https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=htt … AdAAAAABAK

They aren’t gray!

Eversince I’ve started playing, I’ve called them mountains.  They are gray like rocks, have sparse trees acclimated for the cold, and the race biomes are found in them, which can be rped as snowy peaks,  or wet or dry valleys.  However, this question has lingered in my mind eversince my discovery of onetech.  What do I call the band for the translator fam??  The mountain band?  The badland band?  I need answers!

#13 Re: Main Forum » Is the game abandoned? » 2021-01-20 14:00:02

Jason was forced to leave his home because of the California wildfires back in August, due to it not being safe for his children.  He is still in the process of moving across country to New Hampshire, and transporting all of his belongings to the new house.  He’s currently staying at a relative’s it seems, in or around New York, and pushes out the occasional coding update from his laptop.  Although it’s sad, this is one time I can’t fault him for taking a long break.  Family takes priority over this little game.

#15 Re: Main Forum » Why do you /die? » 2020-12-31 22:37:17

I like to dye clothes, so I often /die to get to the black fam so I can give all the families alum.  Then, I’ll /die to the other families to dye all their clothes.

#16 Re: Main Forum » How would you go about bringing the Apocalypse? » 2020-12-17 15:08:11

A possible apoc means that everything I build might be erased at any time.  Because of that possibility, it is not worth playing.  I like the marks I make, and to see how others use them, or how they’ve been treated days later.

#17 Re: Main Forum » How would you go about bringing the Apocalypse? » 2020-12-17 14:51:49

Oh great, more apoc attempts.  Thanks for letting me know at least, so I can avoid the game for another 2 weeks.

#18 Re: Main Forum » Problem: Not Enough Uses for Garlic » 2020-12-14 03:59:53

The main problem is that newer players think that domestic garlic is edible because wild garlic is.  They farm a ton of it like they would any other crop, and then they get disappointed when they realize that they created a stack of useless bulbs that will be used for grave markers at best.  This could be avoided if domestic garlic was edible, but I guess that isn’t entirely realistic.  However, garlic is one of the most used spices in the world, and it would only make sense, and solve this problem, if it were included in a bunch of recipes.

Garlic bread, mashed potatoes with garlic, potato soup with garlic, garlic flavored chips, and garlic dry rubs for all meats are some examples I can think of off the top of my head, that only include other OHOL ingredients.  I feel like garlic could be made into a truly special crop if it was given 20 or so different recipes where it’s never eaten on its own, but used to create lots of yum foods.  I’d be happy if Jason came back with a ‘garlic and potato update’ to give both crops a bunch more uses in foods.

Also, can we talk about how it only stacks in stacks of 5!  This is so annoying and doesn’t make any sense when everything else stacks in 6.  This just creates more useless garlic piles!

#19 Re: Main Forum » Rabbit or Cloth Clothes? » 2020-12-03 22:19:34

Rabbit clothes are warmer, but decay after a while.

Cloth clothes stay forever and look prettier, but are less warm.

Both are good in their own ways.  If clothes are desperately needed, go for rabbit.  If a loom is available, always make more cloth clothes, as well.

#20 Re: Main Forum » Your thoughts on recent "Black Friday" rush? » 2020-12-02 08:24:54

It wasn’t just Black Friday and the sale that brought the noob rush, as OHOL wasn’t being advertised, but rather a tiktok video of the game went viral and lots of people bought it.

- I entered the game around early February, because I got it advertised to me during the Winter Sale on Steam, and kept it on my wishlist until then.  Because of this, I was one of few noobs, and the game was on its trend of dying.

- It went great, compared to the poor noobs right now.  I was usually the only noob in the village, so my mom would dedicate her life to teaching me things, and I was never competing with others for food or clothes early on.  I remember one of my first moms trying to teach me to smith, and another one who taught me to feed sheep.  I got plenty of one-on-one training time, and there was always someone free to ask questions.

- Again, compared to now, it was amazing for a new player.  Every life was a different experience as I was born to each family.  Everyone was at different tech levels, and I got a nice blend of primitive, medieval village, and advanced city survival.  The whole town could raise me as the only noob, and give me pointers.

- My go-to lesson lately has been milking cows.  Usually no one is already doing it, so I am not interfering with someone’s work, and I can show the whole cycle of growing corn, harvesting and shucking it, drying it, feeding it, breeding cows, milking them, and making skim milk, all in one life easily.  I also find this a good lesson for noobs because they get to see a finished product come out of their work, and be proud of it.  They also can jump in from any part of the cycle and continue it, along with the fact that they will be producing yum foods in their future lives for everyone.

- I try to mention onetech, the subreddit, the discord, and Twisted’s videos to every noob I teach.  When I’m leader, every few minutes I also give an order about onetech, and various other things, for noobs.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the colors on the family tree the same for each person.  Sun and Clayre, at least for me, both are pink with teal outlines.

as far as "just /die until you get back there," that only works if enough time has passed to clear up your lineage ban, right?

In my own experience, no.  I’ve personally /died back to work on projects before, pressing ‘reborn’ within seconds after I die.  Usually, I have to cycle through all of the other families again, but it’s still possible.  Sometimes, I’m even born directly back into the fam without having to /die.  You can check my past lives for an example of this.  32 days ago, I was Sun Pickens, and then was reborn as his second cousin a minute later, Clayre Pickens.

#23 Re: Main Forum » Your first grief? » 2020-11-25 15:43:55

Where exactly do I fit in on this equation then?  It seems to me, the answer is grief the game to get therapy.  But, my moral integrity makes me not grief, both because I’ve never been one to take others down with me, and that it just doesn’t sound fun to do the same few things over and over again.  However, I can’t be the therapist and watch as everything I’ve built and grown attached to throughout the days, which is therapeutic to me as I like seeing things grow, be taken away from me and destroyed at the hands of someone else that might or might not change if I put on a mask and try to help them.  I didn’t consent to being their therapist, but I have to try, or else I’m the one needing the therapy.  But, when I have the integrity not to grief, I can’t get the therapy from others, which turns me off from the game, and makes me feel like I never want to play again.  Even if I successfully help someone overcome their issues, and play in a peaceful way, to finally subdue my own issues, someone immediately takes their place.  There’s an endless stream of griefers coming in, and just one of me that has to take each one of their individual punches, until I finally snap, and leave the game forever.  Where will your therapist be then?  Where do I get my therapy?  It goes both ways.  Think of the other side.

Provoking griefers is only going to make their behavior worse. Their actions might be their own but their inspiration for those actions are often not. Blaming them exclusively is just as bad as them blaming you exclusively. We all play a part in the social dynamics of this game. Creating an us against them environment is, absolutely, what has lead to the increased aggression of griefers over the last year. Bullying them, belittling them, and taking extreme acts against minor behavior only makes things worse. If you want to fix griefing you should try to find a way to fix what makes the person do it in the first place. Its rare a griefer isnt angry or sad or given up hope on this community. You could be that hope instead of cutting their wounds even deeper. Attacking problems in society has never worked, and often only makes things worse. Take the war on drugs for example. All it has done is make the black market more cunning and aggressive. Food for thought.

How could I give a griefer hope when I don’t even have hope anymore myself, because they are killing it?  The reason I haven’t played in 2 weeks is because everything I do will be destroyed.  The reason I don’t grief is because I have the moral integrity to let others enjoy themselves, instead of ruining the fun of others, just for a slight bit of joy from me.  Griefers made me leave the game.  They won.  I don’t have any desire to play because they have no integrity like me.  How do I give them hope when I feel like this?  They don’t experience the same attachment that I feel to families.  They have the advantage.  I hold no power over them ingame.  Literally all you can do in a desperate attempt to gain power reasonably and fight back, is to get in their head.  Otherwise, your just another pawn, who’s day has been ruined, and they don’t care.  What’s the solution?  Showering them with love and acceptance?  Why waste my precious time on Earth on someone who might or might not change?  If the jabs to get in their head don’t work like they haven’t so far, the game might as well be abandoned.  Sorry to the noobs that thought they would have their own little utopia and make their marks, all destroyed because people don’t have integrity to play nice.

#25 Re: Main Forum » Let Destructive Players Win: Leave Town or Don't Play At All » 2020-11-15 18:22:45

The problem is, you can’t control everyone to act one way, and one reaction is all that the “villain” wants.  I guarantee that if people just carried on with normal conversation after someone posted a picture of the truck with engines and kero that they stole, and didn’t acknowledge them at all for the next few times they did it, they would get bored and stop playing OHOL.  However, someone always has to post clown emojis, and cuss them out, which is all that the villain wants, and they have “won” in their mind.
