Ah I stopped playing The Sims decades ago, I didn't know it was a thing. Just thought it would be nice to get a little extra time on a civ you've developed. See if your dumb a$$ kids manage to make a living!
Perhaps it could be for Eves only. After all everyone knows the 'best' ghosts are from yonks ago, olden agey time, would make sense that it was the first original ancestor to come haunt the offspring of the offspring of the offspring.... etc!
Forgive me, I was wondering where to put this and I don't do Reddit.
But what about having ghosts after a person dies, maybe set a time limit - of say 30 mins - so you can watch some of your kids grow old? Perhaps even have a minimal amount of communication:
"Don't eat all the berries," from a disembodied voice in the ether...
Also I was going to suggest disease, but its sort of being done in bites and swabs. As communities get bigger and tech better - we've got to have a little bit of disease to knock some people off...
i do this sometimes - i ask the baby "q?" and if they dont respond i leave em for dead. only when eveing tho and ive only had boys
Ah, well there you see - I don't know about that - so I'd be stuffed. LOL, I appreciate something like this would only work if people are actually aware of it.
I mean don't get me wrong - I am not an expert on this game - I just want to see a general better level of bushcraft survival. I was away from my main computer for over a month and couldn't play - so I missed what was happening for about 5 updates, two of which I suspect were big ones, based on how the game has changed.
Last night I learned how to cook eggs, I still haven't looked into how to get a soil till back to life after the first crop, since coming back - I haven't had to worry about it. None of my kids or players around me live beyond the first crop anyway. Amount of times I've looked at my family tree and seen the other players die of starvation after nursing but very early on is incredible - meanwhile I'm going until 50 - 60. Food is not the problem. And - I don't hide my own secret stash either - often I bring food back to the camp - yet still players starve. Oh, it's just so frustrating sometimes.
A player should know how to feed themselves - otherwise they are no use to anyone!
And fuck all the other kids who wanna help but don't use the forums, right?
I didn't quite say it that way, but yeah in a sense - I guess you are paraphrasing me right.
However, I could add - saying to the player - "have you been on the forums," that may encourage some to do a little research about this brilliant, beautiful, complicated game. It might not. My suggestion is only that. If, like me you are a little tired of spending hours and hours on false starts - then maybe you would see a temporary benefit to this idea. I don't say do it forever, but lets get the learning curve up a bit. Also it's either one of two things:
No-one adopts this, follows it - so I affect 0.0001 percent of other players start ups and in the process deny myself offspring - although I might be more lenient to girls for obvious in game reasons (hey the sexism is built into the game - what can I d0?).
Or
A hard-core group does do this and we have longer generational lines - through good breeding / players, and some of our newer members learn a little bit along the way. Again elitism whether you like it or not is built into the game.
The other idea which I like is using religion or cultism to create a sense of identity - a way of doing things that can be communicated simply - which I already see as happening - with the different religion ideas on the forums. Cactus / Spiders / Bear based religions etc. I'm hoping at some point there will be some kind of symbolic / material way clans can represent their identity at some point (flags / banners etc). This game only has a billion good places to go.
Generally today has just been a series of errors!
The one really good shot I had at it as an Eve and my daughter decided to relocate to a place that had no food. She complained the spot I'd more or less had to settle on wasn't good enough. The main reason was because it wasn't on desert. Now I get the benefit of having good temp spots, but not when there is no food. We should atleast have got comfortable in a reasonable spot before moving where we did with a load of kids.
Also sick of babies being born - hanging around for a couple of minutes then deciding things aren't what they like and suiciding. Right a high percentage of time I can make it to old age. The biggest killer is not starvation - it's snakes, bears and my own bloomin kids wasting my time.
Soooo, I am going to ask for a code for a week or so. Before I even pick someone up I'm gonna say code. If they want to live and perhaps have read this post - indicating they read the forums and thus might know a bit about the game, they'll know to start spelling: SUPERCALIFRAGILISTIC... - they don't have to write the whole thing. That's just me being a beep!
I need some team work not moody 'not good enoughers,' people who know how to muck in and get da thing going!
What I like about the idea of a prison - is it's probably something you can implement with the basics as it exists. Which means it's something which villages can choose to do - or not. This game doesn't just have to reflect how our society 'works,' but it is interesting that we either reach the same conclusions as rl, or perhaps lack imagination for how to deal with problems in other ways?
I guess the baby would be taken straight to prison because you cannot man-handle and adult (can you?), although I suppose you could use physical force like a knife or bow and arrow to get them to enter as an adult. But then, would they not just suicide and start again?
I have been lenient towards cursed babies. I had two yesterday, I flat out asked the first one if they were going to behave, had they learn't their lesson. They said yes, but after nursing them to be able to feed themselves they wandered off. Perhaps to give grief to someone other than their Mum, I don't know. Sorry if they did, but people deserve a second chance.
I have just tried using the command prompt - something I am not massively comfortable with (not sure what the heck I am doing...). Doesn't work.
I remember when I first bought the game I was, ahem - sad I know, massively impressed with myself that I managed to get it working in the first place, but this has befuddled me.
Only point I would say - Windows had a massive update earlier - what have those tricky sons of guns at Microsoft done to prevent me playing my fave game...?
Yep, part of the reason I finally created an account for the forum is been having the same problem. Was worried.
I log in as normal - despite all the updates for the last few months and it goes through an update loop. Gave it a rest for a bit to see if something was happening server side, but still having the problem...!
I am the opposite, more likely to suicide in big cities where I get bored. To me second or third generation is way more fun then big cities. I think in general that's the more experienced players tho, I remember when I was new it was too overwhelming and we have a lot of new players recently.
Agreed. I like the challenge of starting a new colony. What I am finding is two major things:
One: Big colonies, well advanced run out of ready to eat food. Someone always seems to forget or neglect the basics.
Two: Although this might be part of the reason for one - people don't plan for the population explosion that occurs with success in a big village - at some point it reaches a critical mass - where everyone eats the last bit of food before the new has grown.
Also I find it fun to start from scratch - I might take a bowl or a basket to get me set (if they are in abundance), the quicker I can get a new farm going the better. Now that might seem bad taking a bowl or basket, but compared to being an extra mouth to feed in a society that is already reaching breaking point I think I'm doing them a favour. Especially if I am a female.
I love jumping into early settlements - basically I am bored to the teeth, when everything is already there for you.
And one more point - starvation is a real problem and it's harder for big villages to forage - because a lot of the forageable food around the city has also gone - but that doesn't make it impossible. I find part of the joy of the game is to go exploring - I've seen a lot of players who just don't have that sense of risk v reward who don't realise - they stay - they starve anyway. Better to starve running with hope in your heart, on your own terms than just hang about a hungry village.
And, nothing better than being an Eve running to find a home!
