Awesome! Keep it up!
My guess is that it searches for a spot to dump your stuff, and there is no room nearby. I've definitely seen clothes explosions launch stuff behind trees and such. But only to adjacent tiles I think?
That's actually really interesting. Saying "yes" when asked if you know what you are doing is a survival technique. Evolution at work! =-D
I am a little torn about the wild carrots. The point of the basic survival tutorial is to empower new users with knowledge. I don't think keep people ignorant of how to do things is the correct way to do it. On the other hand, yes, we don't want people hunting down every wild carrot to extinction. I mentioned about conserving them, but perhaps I didn't emphasize it enough.
It is similar to fertile soil. Even though it is a non-replenishable resource, we still dig it up to make some carrots. A dead hourling can't make carrots either.
Perhaps I'll make a short tutorial on just "conservation" and go through everything that does not replenish.
So, I really love all this number crunching you guys are doing. But this ain't Factorio. I wonder if the time it takes for one or more people to do this farming affects what is best. Or if some of the advantages of certain setups end up being completely lost because humans can't keep up in actual application.
Thank you for this post. =-) If holding class is too difficult, then perhaps private lessons is the way to go. Please don't quit, though. The world is always in need of good teachers.
How to share suggestions is here:
Right! So teach them how to make clothes and pies.
Excellent summary, and readable. I have subscribed!
The game is open source. You can build your own server (easiest on a Linux machine) and then play on there all by your lonesome. But you will lose most of the awesomeness that this game has to offer.
I like this thread. At the very minimum, you should be the "leader" of your children. Don't just let them do what they want. Tell them what they need to do.
If you're living in a settlement and someone new shows up, you need to tell them what to do to help. Yeah, it gets hard to chat when you're trying to work. But if you take a few moments to tell people how to help, your job becomes way easier.
But especially if you're a dedicated mother, teach teach teach.
This "bug" usually happens when you change your settings to use a specific server, and that server is full. If you keep useCustomServer.ini set to 0, then it will find a server for you to connect to.
What have you done so far? Have you run the script to get all of the files needed? Did you read the stickied post in this forum on setting up a server?
After you have done those things, there is more documentation in your directory that have now downloaded. Go to OneLife/documentation. Read the file called EditorAndServerBuildNotes. That has a few steps that are used to build the server. You can skip the client and editor parts.
Hi Joriom, I replied on YouTube to your comment. Please do watch the rest of the videos and then come back and tell me what you think. I go over all of the stuff you mention in those. This first video is an absolute basic survival video for people that have no clue what they are doing.
I don't mention milkweed in this video on purpose. I'm trying to not overwhelm a new player. I'm just trying to help them stay alive.
Using custom server settings is not recommended. Your game will stop updating, and this game updates a lot!
Yep! Just use the same access code.
Basic farming tutorial is now available:
Clothes making tutorial is now available:
You don't have to set any of these to join the main servers. Just run the game and it will connect you.
Fire making tutorial is now available:
I've started creating some tutorials and posting them on YouTube. The first one, which is a very basic survival tutorial, is available here:
I have tutorials for making fire, making clothes, and basic farming recorded and I'm getting them uploaded now. I'll post here when they are available.
Next I'm planning on creating a tutorial for pottery and then probably advanced farming.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or requests, please do let me know! Thanks!
Here is the playlist with all available tutorials:
You can replace it just fine, but you cannot take it off by clicking on yourself.
When you make boiling water, you are left holding an empty bowl. When the water cools, it is in a brand new bowl.
