Can't build face to face gates

So, I tried to build two gates, face to face, separated by an alley. It removes the short shaft on one gate. Same if I build the gates in diagonal.

Is that normal or is it a bug ?

Gates have special build conditions, not sure exactly what they are. This is the sort of thing a wiki can detail that isn't covered by onetech.

Fence gates, upon creation, tap out nearby fence gates and turn them back into fence sections, just like snow doors. So you can't make the entire horizontal wall of your fence area out of gates. Fixes #756

I believe you cannot make two fence gates within 2 tiles of each other so....

FENCE     FENCE       FENCE      FENCE
GATE                                        GATE

is the minimum.

Aaahh, thank you Cordy. Yes you're right, you need at least two tiles to separate two gates.
I made a sucky image to illustrate. The "idk" squares are positions I didn't test, but a priori it doesn't work.
