Business Attire!

Dress for success!

The toque blanche and the straw hat let people know what job you’re doing. But the quiver and the Red Cross apron… those make certain jobs easier.

What if there was a smithy apron that let you dual wield tongs and a hammer? What if there where lumberjack suspenders that made chopping less hungry work? What if there was a mechanic that let you pass your uniform on to your protege? (Something more than just putting it on the ground for them to pick up.)

I had fun thinking of a few, so here they are, with a lot of gaps and room for improvement. If you want to brainstorm with me, I’ll edit this post to fill in what we come up with.

Requirements

Some things to think about in general.
- Pro must have a Con. It must have a down side to keep things balanced (quiver means no backpack, Red Cross apron doesn’t insulate).
- No alternative uses. It should only be worth it for someone who wants to do that job.
- Think about how griefers will use it. I’ll jot down griefable suggestions, but I’ll probably tag them, just to keep the creative juices flowing.
- Maybe it’s one time use, or decays if you don’t pass it directly to someone (protege).
- Bonus points if you can craft it while doing your profession.
- By the way, I wasn’t playing back during tool slots. If there is a lesson to learn from that, tell me. Don’t let me suggest something similar.

General Pros:
- simply makes easier to hold the constituent pieces of the job
- makes hungry work less hungry
- speed buff?

General Cons:
- no backpack at the same time
- lifetime binding
- must be transferred to not decay (protege)
- restricts horseback riding (all vehicles)
- less insulation

Ok… Thanks for your contribution?

In all seriousness, that already exists in-game, so I’m allowed to not add that to the master list.

Re: Business Attire!

If you mean what does the player do, I figured you’d just pick up one then pick up the other. I could be missing something with the clicks because I use wondible’s client that has keyboard bindings.

All are good ideas, but seeing game limitation, I don't think using 2 items at the same time is possible. What if the apron made you move faster within 10 tiles of a forge or something?

What are you thinking of that would make it impossible?

Here’s an example: You pick up a knife then you pick up a bowl. If you try to do an action to a cooked turkey the only valid thing is slice the turkey. If you click a water bucket the only valid thing is get a bowl of water. Even if there where two actions possible, I don’t see why the couldn’t just be a hierarchy. Like feed the sheep would come before slaughter the sheep.

I imagine a forge in every room. smile

I like the proximity thing though. That could help nerf a power that’s too good. But speed is a power that’s too general.

Because the game engine only lets you pick up one item?

Lets say you pick up tongs, and a hammer. How does the game know what your trying to do? Both items can be used on a hot piece of iron, so there is no hierarchy on which item will be used. Just my 2 cents...

I don't think speed is an overpowered ability neither does Jason.

Check this out.... just build a town on 100% cobblestone roads or put highways all around it.... Or farm while in a posse... = Farming at the speed of a horse

Speed effects nothing in this game (maybe pvp) and could be used much more effectively.

Is there something fundamental to the engine that could show the impossibly?

Yeah, that makes sense, no fail safe to default to. How about the swap mouse button picks up/down and the action mouse button hammers?

I’m not saying it’s overpowered. I’m saying it would be easily exploited. Roads and posse are not easily exploited.
