a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

I played three full lives back to back today. Usually I only play one and see griefers. Today I went from city to city and saw none. If there ever is one, they get cursed out of existence. They don't have the high ground anymore.
I think the only thing people agree on is that it's after an apocalypse, which is why everyone knows about technology that's too advanced for their surroundings
There was a suggestion which I liked: You can spell out any exact name, but if the server has to autocorrect, then it picks by gender.
I would be completely fine with that actually.
By the way last life I told one of my babies "You're completely new right?" and my message wasn't even allowed to go through because it got autocorrected to "You're Commie German" (our family name). I liked it better beforehand, where it doesn't correct your message in case you're not actually naming the child.
Now don't get me wrong I absolutely love all the additional names, that's going to make it so much more diverse. I'm only mad about the gender matching. Who cares what gender the names are? I found it funny, and freeing, and I liked having a male name when I was female etc. Yes it has to do with my gender identity but still, I find it unnecessary. The only reason it exists is to allow people that don't give names, that just say "you are g" or "you are b" and let fate decide, to keep doing so and feel even less awkward about it. It makes everything more systematic. Names apparently have genders in game now as a RULE OF THE UNIVERSE. No cultural differences, nothing.
It's not even for realism's sake. If that were the case, we would have FATHERS, we would have marriage, we would have thirst?? To me it is just a stigmatizing feature and I know that most people won't be bothered by it. I'm definitely not asking you to agree or to also be upset about it. I just hope you understand where I'm coming from. The game is still great.
I assume it affects all related players, as your family doesn't depend on your name now (when adopted by another family, you keep your own family's name)
It's weird that you need to speak the other family's language to declare war. That makes sense for peace, but why can't you go to war with people you don't understand?
"Declaring war" means telling the other family you intend to go to war, not your own. That's how it goes in real life too, you send them a warning beforehand. Humans are more polite than they look, even with these barbaric practices.
I don't see why a member of another family would be more likely to have sinister motives than someone of your own family? Considering war isn't default anymore, they're not more likely to murder you than your brother is. Sounds like internalized xenophobia sprouted by the previous updates...
Personally I'd like to be able to turn letters into letter stamps. So you'd only have to make a letter once before being able to write texts with it. That and some ink could make for interesting sign mechanics.
And then what? Trolls could simply make the letter stamps of their favorite slur and spend their whole life littering the playground with hate signs. Sounds thrilling, doesn't it?
You weren't looking for a challenge, or for a game. You were looking for an infinite sandbox to pour your hours of loneliness into. I understand you lost that, but know that there are as many infinite wildernesses right there in your mind for you to run through. A game with difficulties, however, is much harder to imagine.

But don't you need to be standing practically still for them to stab you? Or does it mean they knew exactly on which tile to aim their stab? Sounds a lot like cheating to me...
Everyone: complains about the rift to Jason
Also everyone: provides evidence to Jason of a giant, beautiful monument they all built together inside the rift
I'm sorry, but you can't expect a refund if you've poured hours upon hours of playtime into the game. That just means you had a satisfactory experience, those are the rules. Just because the game has changed now doesn't mean you get to bail and take everything back.
So wait. Your solution to different languages is to have objects that allow you to magically understand each other? No, the point is that you're supposed to learn the language if you ever want to achieve communication. It has to be an effort both families want to partake in.
40 is still fairly young. Make it 50 and it's old enough that you'd really care about your village and family, and young enough that people will actually have time to declare peace before they die. Old people can't travel to another town that easily.
Yes yes yes
It's like finding a shiny pokemon but more sad
"Cooper Coolbro Froio, you really were the coolest and sickest bro I ever got the chance to raise.
-ur mom"
On a post where Coolbro told his whole life story. I was proud to be in that story. Also I feel like ending my post with "ur mom" is very accurate.
What I've found is that learning the language system is extremely easy if you're enthusiastic about it. It's too bad we're not all fond of languages to that extent, but finding someone that wants to learn as much as you do on the other side, and simply learning the vocabulary between you word after word (ex: berry, iron, milkweed) can make you a genius in diplomacy.
If you add numbers, how will they be translated? Realistically, if a foreigner said a number, you wouldn't understand it more than any other word in his language. Or perhaps using numbers would simulate the action of showing fingers on your hand, which is pretty much universal?
Yes please. It just makes sense.
I was joking, ollj <3
See you Tarr
That's it right there. Entitlement. All these players feel entitled to choose how the game goes; they don't realize they have no power over that. Or maybe they do, and that's why they're so angry.
It's as if Jason's game has become theirs. Hell, people are telling the developer they "know better" than him. Why? This is not your game. It's his. You were not invited to create this game. You were not asked to participate in its development. You were offered a chance of playing it. That's it, nothing more.
You're small creatures, looking up at the sky, screaming at the sun that you deserve better.
It definitely was extremely naive on my part. I am trusting and hopeful by nature. If there's anything I can assure you, it's that I learn from my mistakes and that it won't be happening again.
