It's just sad that even ruining a handicapped person's day doesn't make you think "I am a bad person". Who raised you?

We aren't talking about real life.  People aren't interested in exact simulations of reality.  They aren't interested in real play.  If they were, they would not be interested in playing any sort of game to begin with, which by nature requires a suspension of belief.  They would just do something else with their time.  People are interested in imaginative scenarios, in other words, role play, and any time they play a game that's what they are doing and will be doing.

Actually, that is exactly one of the reasons why I play this game. It's an easy alternative to real life. I enjoy roleplaying as people I will never get to be irl, but that evolve in situations similar to real life. Btw, it's "suspension of disbelief".

Please, why would you advise children to have full pies in their backpacks? Pies are for public use by yumming adults, not for personal pip filling.

I mostly just struggle to orient myself without the Rift, so I feel like I almost never interact with anyone from another town. Used to be I'd be born in one town, die, be born in another and be able to navigate between them based on how close to the edge they were. Now I just have no idea where anyone is so it feels like an empty lonely universe with just my own family.

I think if we just get some bell towers built it'll fix that, though.

I experience the same thing without the rift. The rift created an enclosed environment where you could evolve between lives, meet other families, create alliances, mix populations, etc.

People said without the rift, each life would truly feel different. The opposite has happened to me. Each life is just repeating the same steps, in a lonely, single-family world, rather than achieving progress over several lives like one could do in the rift.

I've generally just lost my sense of excitement and orientation. I'm not interested in difficult crafts, so what's the use of my existence if there's no other families to play with, and if every village is similar?

I know trying to interact with your fellow family members can sometimes be very frustrating, especially if they are unresponsive. However, having magic paper that tells you what is needed seems like a bad call. It would essentially limit player interaction even more. Besides, I've helped at the oven in many lives before leaving to do smth else. It doesn't make me a baker.

Capture them with a lasso then tie them up? It'd be awful if anyone could just do that to anyone else

We have the posse system. What if you could only tie someone up with a lasso if at least 2, 3, 4... players have joined your posse? Then, you can lead them anywhere, and have a transition where you put the person in the stocks. Stocks need to be locked, I suppose, so the person could struggle for about ten seconds and if it's not locked by then they get out. If they do get stuck in the stocks, people may curse the person, throw tomatoes at them, feed them, etc.

#58 Re: Main Forum » Suggestion: Nicknames » 2019-11-09 18:29:04

Lum

I'm very much against this because it would:
1. Render given names useless. Don't like your name? You can name yourself anything. It would be good for roles, but still.
2. Destroy anonimity. This game is great because you are not supposed to exactly be yourself: you take on the identity of a person in the game, and you play through them. If there are nicknames, I'd expect many people to name themselves after their forum pseudonym in each life so that they may be recognized easily. I don't like that. It would ruin the immersion, as well as potentially create certain biases.

Screw you, Dodge. Just because YOU haven't been able to build any bonds with other players in the game doesn't mean your experience is universal. I like roleplaying with family, and as it turns out, most people enjoy that. I have had countless children live with me for entire lives and it was fucking great. I've had brothers and sisters I went on adventures with. So quit your bullshit about there being apparently no social interaction in the game. That's just you, not trying.

I know that. My question is why should his life have any effect on my genetic score when we only share 3.125% of our DNA? I share 12.5% with a first cousin but they don't count toward my score.

Current genetic scoring incentivizes saving someone who has 3.125% over first cousin who shares 12.5%

I don't understand what you're trying to get at? Your perception of "close family" just isn't necessarily the one put forward by this game. If he was born when you were alive, he's family, and you should be caring for him, that's all. Just because he's not your direct descendant does not mean he's less important to your family as a whole, and thus to you. You just seem misguided as to what constitutes the relevancy of an individual to you.

You should join the Discord! Lots of the actual good players are in there and you'll often find people you saw in your life. You'll always always be up to date on the current memes and news and stuff.

Did you forget the part where he left the game? That's why there's a monument. Because he allegedly left.

#66 Re: Main Forum » RFC for updates » 2019-10-28 10:16:07

I don't think that's how Jason works. He implements things, sees if they go awry or not, and THEN he tweaks. Considering an update only in theory, and never in practice, seems counterintuitive.

#67 Re: Main Forum » Why is there a Rift? » 2019-10-28 10:06:49

Lum

I find it funny that some people are dead set on believing the rift is going to stay. To me, it was always clear that Jason's intention was experimenting, not torture, and that the rift would not be a permanent solution.

I don't think you get the design philosophy of this game, which is to add specific objects rather than generics when introducing new mechanics. Ex: a mango rather than the generic fruit apple, a char rather than just a regular fish, specific trees, etc. Jason won't add more variety because it's useless.

Well, just know you're not the only one to think it's stifling. It's probably not going to change, but if it did that would be great. I just don't feel like gendered names contribute that much to realism considering how weird this game is anyway.
