Forgive me, but I would like to suggest another solution. What if we had easier ways to build roads?
it can be hard to find towns and its kind unnatural to force eves to have a behave. But it could be easy to find towns if we could construct longer roads in a lifetime, then it would be easy to find the roads, then find the cities and to connect towns. Once you find a town it is hard to get back and to teach people from your original town to get in there. that would be solved too.
I really like the idea that foriegn languages must be learned by the player, rather than just being given to you over time. it is like learning how to build a plane or newcomen pump. A skill that you aquire through experience and real effort.
I agree a 100% with that and i would accept the challenge of learning all the languages if they were in a limited number. I really think all this dialects we have now could be turned into permanent languages in future updates.
I thought you had to remember it yourself
that would be nice if we had a limited number of languages, i would love to learn all. I actually think this could happens and the big amount of dialects would become common languages.
Besides, i think a baby should know the language it is been spoken near him, so if his mom abandoned him in some town and never talked to him he couldn't understand her in a future moment.
The babies absorv the culture near them. So in the case he was born in a town and his mom is near him, talking to him, and he "hears" strangers talking he would "learn" both languages and help his mom, but never teach her, because he actually never saw the foreign language, only if there was a button to change filters so changing languages that the others would "hear" him saying, meanwhile he is only typing english
Ive been trying to learn some languages in the game and i was thinking if we are able to find out how the language change system works. Here are some words i learnt in two languages:
HAWK LANGUAGE
i - e
hi - go
hello - gandi
sorry - dishu
lol - wing
friend - drouw
war - len
town - pripe
people - foabke
understand - ollalnell
baby - mepu
yes - swad
no - vi
maybe - boinch
thanks - slerked
you - swie
me - ba
ROSE LANGUAGE
hi - ga
love - wete
sorry - feshu
dont - mem
understand - iencowdinc
people - beusrt
baby - pedu
f - s
berry - poshu
peace - beeze
town - vened
i - a
you - scria
yes - scrong
no - che
ty - vu
help - gorts
use - iere
stone - trep
pen - bost
the - swo
mom - dent
As you can see it is not a simple letter change. But im really interested to find out if there is a way to solve the code behind translation or if it is just a random change (i actually dont know if the creators have said something about it, let me know). Anyone interested in helping me? Anyone knows another words in another languages?
What do you think about jasonism?
Do you consider appearing in the game as J. Jason with special powers (no sarcasm with religion, i'm christian) traveling through towns helping people and joining followers til you get killed by griefers? then introducing religion objects, i see lot of peoples building churchs, would be cool some ornaments. I know it's not a necessity, but it would be really fun LOL
Regarding property fences, are you experiencing a bunch of major problems with hoarding?
thats interesting, because the answer, at least for me, is no. I think people dont care much about fences today, which means in the future we probably wont have problems with wars, although i like wars, its just the hype in the beggining. actually i would like to see people using fences more and trade system, but if we are not seeing this much means the majority as one force chose to be a coletivism society
-In what situations do you /DIE?
Two situations:
I - when i enter the game planning on doing something specific i can't do in a small town
II - When i want to go back to a specific town ive lived, then i /DIE til i get there or til spawn as eve which i can't /DIE and im too lazy to kill myself
/DIE should never exist, now we are used to that and we refuse to loose it.
Edit: When my mother ask to stay i stay LOL
I understand you, i was pissed about people complaining and started to use the forum just to say this is one of the most amazing experiences i had in games in my whole life and i was feeling like i was the only one.
...
My idea is to keep thing like they are. Meaning that, like now, you can run away as baby, you can /die as baby, you can run away older. But, the game “remember” your choices. Do you run away as a boy/girl? In an Eve camp? In an city? Do you ignore all your babies? That will all change your next births. I was thinking to give the game more options in how you spawn. Not by asking you “Hey do you want to spawn here?” or letting your follow your mom in her womb, but by making an sort of algoritme.
Then you will get people with different playstyles. Here I name a couple:
- Player A is not keen on playing as boy. If player A suicide by running/die-in enough the game would "learn" that and give him more chance to be a Girl in first change (So that he don't need to suicide.)
- Player B hates to be born in Eve-camps so as Eve or eve-kid. The game learns that and won't let player B born here. Or at least, far less. (So, player B would be born as gen 4 at least.)
- Player C hates the city with lots of people. Meaning that he will be more likely to be born in an Eve-camp or as eve's kids, because that's where he stays.
- Player D playes everywhere, always. Player D won't get a special role, but will be born in the cases where players A, B and C became less likely to be born.
- Player E playes everwhere and always, but has an slight plus towards a boy. Maybe because this player when playing as a woman, let all her babies die. This player will be more likely be spawn in as a boy.
...
i liked this idea. i would add a system where players create quests for other players, i mean most of the time I committed suicide i wasn't feeling useful for the village. This quest system would work also for future generations, like "finish this" or keep this safe. i don't know what hthe rewards would be...
I was a skeptic about the language update but after playing with it for a bit I'm happy to say I love it.
The only bad thing is that everyone looks the same due to the lack of player models, especially A and F villages, considering those skin tones only have one male model each. We definitely should have gotten several new player models along the other changes.
I also still think we need better storage options sooner rather than later. Languages are cool and fun and great, but not having good storage detracts from my enjoyment of the game. Same with bug fixes.
Are you twisted from youtube? Big fan here LOL. i saw your video, i agree with you, lots of papers will be necessary to talk to strangers. And about the sprites i agree too i like multiple faces, but that doesnt bother me too much ![]()
Ok, i respect what you said and i would do the same if i wasn't enjoying.
I agree this is a strawman. The food system and the crafting system differ substantially from those games. So does clothing. So does fire.
All these systems gives us lots of options on what to do in the game, but if im right the problem is that there are conflicts between those activities and the new ones just like was in property update, and i understand that something you don't like disturbs what you want to do. I see this as a challenge. But thats my opinion and i respect yours.

Nice non-reply there.
I come in your thread making the point that the issues are more complicated than just "we don't like griefers" and here you are, sitting there, telling me I have no point.
Do you have difficulties with english?
Do you know how proper debates work?
If you can't even properly have discussions with people, don't bother making a topic.paulof wrote:most of what you see as problems
Then, tell me, what DO I see as problems that you don't?
Oh, and before you say "See! You don't have a point
", my point was already made.
Don't tell me you made a topic basically strawmanning a whole side of the community while expecting for me to sit there and shut up instead of pointing it out.
It's almost as if your intent was to polarize the debate. Wait, are you a troll?
You seem aggressive since first comment and yes i can understand you, but "we don't like griefers
" is not a point, it is not griefers update, although there is a relation, but you can not go deeper because you are too good for that, right?. im not trying to polarize, as i said, i wanted to discuss, i want to read multiple opinions in what is good besides the complainings ive seen.
I agree with you in most of what you said and i must agree here too
Weapon that is exclusively used only to kill other lineages - Well, this isn't exactly something we needed but we knew it was going to be coming when Jason mentioned it. I personally have no problem with a weapon that can only be used on outsiders. My issue comes from the fact that it is piss poorly balanced for a game Jason claims isn't a pvp game. The starting point of this weapon was as a butter knife (unlimited stabs, no cooldown, etc.) which is absolutely fucking absurd. The butter knife for anyone who wasn't around during this time made the game basically unplayable for two weekends in a row (as he reintroduced it the next patch as an arrow-note but was ranged this time.) The unbalanced part of the sword is what makes people be so negative towards the update and honestly, if he didn't release a sword this patch you would have likely seen a lot more praise like when he released new clothes + food options.
The sword and the system of the game are not perfect for wars, at least not right now, but i can enjoy, i guess im not that rigorous with that or i expected to be like this.
paulof wrote:but some people wants this to be the sims + sim city.
I'm very tired of this type of strawmanning.
I'll only bother replying to you once you start seriously reading arguments from people who oppose Jason's recent updates.I can do this to you as well, by the way.
Some people want this to be a griefing simulator. But no! It's about more than that!
I read as much as i can, but most of the problems people complain are not problems for me, most of what you see as problems i see as challenges and thats what make me want to play. Of course there are problems and the feedback is important, but i created this topic because really wanted to know if someone agree with me, which i haven't seen, and for us to discuss, guess you don't agree, you are free to present your point, if you don't have a point don't bother replying.
Well, everyone has their own perspective about the game, everybody wants this to reach some specific point and it will never please everybody. It's not my game, it's jason's game, it's his idea, i want to play what he planed for the game til i get bored of this. I respect that, he is not trying to please everybody, he is trying to concretize his idea and for me its been amazing.
About these racism and discrimination thing i understand, but unfortunetly these are real things and exist everywhere and happens all the time, it's a reminder that we should fight this in and out of the games. The problem is not that the game allow people to be racist, the problem is the racism itself and we can't just feel bad, but we need to fight.
LOL, it was me.
I found a paper with useful words like "yes", "no", "me", "you", so i decided to make more, because i wanted to say "sorry, i dont understand". Then i made many papers with words i wanted to say, like "understand", and asked people to read it for me so i printed and used as a dicitionary. Now you said i forgot to learn how to say "don't", then i said "dishu, e vi ollalnell" which means "sorry, i no understand"
Now i know a language that doesnt even exist LOL
Every big update is the same thing, lots of people complaining, well...
This new update, for example, is just amazing. I love to learn this crazy languages and try to talk. It changes completely the dynamics of the game, just when im getting bored BOOM!! Lots of new challenges like to survive the wars, to learn how to comunicate with other lineages in order to make a big multicultural city, or even to conquer a city, take their resourses, create a nation (well, they don't last much, but if you think a minute is a year, well...). There is a lot of options, each day is a different adventure, a different role in the history of ohol, that is epic, but some people wants this to be the sims + sim city. OHOL is way more than that, is about life, to live and make decisions.
Why don't we play all this updates to see what will happen, to see where our decisions will take us to... i mean, wars and different languages are part of our society, will we make the same world we have in reality? well... i don't know, but it is very interestng to play to see the answer.
Am i the only one here?
Guys, its a survival game, now we have to survive wars. It's been a survival game from the beginning, but some people seems to forget this.
Haak family build a bell tower and was invaded and wiped out in half an hour.
They were old family, i remember them. When i was there second time there was no haak, but a lot of different families like the baguios and the badas. i was a Tori at that time, we had three cities yet and i wanted one more for our realm. Coincidently there were another toris in there so we took the city. Hope its still a tori city ![]()
Yeah but the general vibe of the update is don't trust people who look or talk different from you. I mean having red hair is not a race seperate from white irl either. It is more about the game encouraging you to kill other families before they kill you because now swords exist. It just feels bad to me. I don't like the game pushing that type of idea, but this update obviously isn't designed for people like me who like taking care of their children and advancing their cities.
Well, You guys think this game is about living peaceful a life, planting and doing stuff the way you want, but its not. Jason is being faithful to what he proposed, a game that simulates life from begining of mankind til nowadays or even the future in where you have to survive not only the nature, but also other players, just like life is. And its a game, it has to have challenges and i think the challenges we have in this game are a genius thing, like to find out how to talk to someone in other languages, to teach kids, protect the village, not starving, etc. Besides, the game brings us all this peace by peace for us not to get bored, which is amazing. Don't forget guys, its a surviving game
