#377 Re: Fixed Bugs » I cant get in to play » 2018-03-18 20:48:10

The fact that it joins non-official servers and plays fine there but won't log in to an official server tells me that it's an account issue. You might have typoed your email address, or there might be a problem if you have unusual symbols in it. I know you said you checked your details, but it's still the most likely cause of this behaviour. Failing that, email Jason to either troubleshoot or ask for a refund.

Thanks for implementing this Jason and thanks to the people who suggested it. It adds a really nice touch. It's also quite practical for telling people apart and helps get people organised into jobs better.

#381 Re: Main Forum » The New Update did not do Enough to Stop Griefers » 2018-03-16 21:50:05

Okay, so, you craft a bow. Now you have to carry it constantly because if you put it down, the griefer gets it. Now the very thing that was supposed to help you is used against you, and that's the recurring theme that I keep coming back to. You cannot combat griefers on an individual basis. The only advantage that good players have over griefers is numbers, but right now there is no mechanism that relies on more than one player to work. We need a mechanism that is more or less useless unless used in numbers cooperatively.

#382 Re: Main Forum » The New Update did not do Enough to Stop Griefers » 2018-03-16 19:33:00

No, that's not enough. The problem is that griefing is immediately available within three minutes of joining a game with no effort required. Making a weapon takes a long time. The answer is not to empower the individual because that works more in the favour of the troll. The answer is to empower the group.

#383 Re: Main Forum » The New Update did not do Enough to Stop Griefers » 2018-03-16 18:07:16

To my complete lack of surprise, the "no eating when full" change made no difference at all to the problem. It took very slightly longer for a naked jerk to eat all the food in the settlement while everyone was still powerless to do anything about it. We need a way to subdue people when acting in numbers.

Hopefully the game survives two weeks without griefers ruining it entirely before Jason can fix this. I'm starting to run out of patience and I'm considering abandoning it.

#384 Re: Main Forum » Shallow Wells and Deep Wells The Truth. EDIT » 2018-03-16 04:53:12

Okay, better idea. It takes five minutes for the well to replenish one level. It takes ten minutes for a wild berry bush to grow one berry. So build a well next to a berry bush. Every time a berry grows, take two water.

#385 Re: Main Forum » Shallow Wells and Deep Wells The Truth. EDIT » 2018-03-16 04:33:01

Why not just "only draw water from a deep well"?

Edit: Duh, because they are two different structures, with the difference being a stanchion kit.

Yes, now we can enjoy.... the silence..... of..... the baby sheep.

#387 Re: Main Forum » Whitelisted Server? » 2018-03-15 22:57:28

I think you can set a password on a server, which isn't as good as a whitelist, but it's a start.

#388 Re: Main Forum » Clothing... is coat warmer than hat? » 2018-03-15 22:55:25

The food consumption is affected by the temperature, which is in turn affected by the insulation and the environment.

#390 Re: Main Forum » Shallow Wells and Deep Wells The Truth. EDIT » 2018-03-15 19:07:01

I'm pretty sure the intended use of the well is that we should never draw from a shallow well, only a deep one.

#391 Re: Main Forum » The New Update did not do Enough to Stop Griefers » 2018-03-15 19:02:49

You don't deal with trolls by arming the individual. "Make armour in the game!" now trolls have armour. "make spears in the game!" now trolls have spears. Etc.

Instead of arming the individual, arm the group

Your body radiates a certain amount of heat, with a default value of 1. The rValue is a coefficient applied to that radiation, thus with an rValue of 0.6 you are radiating 40% less heat.

The rValue of your clothing is calculated as follows: 0.25*rValueOfHat + 0.35*rValueOfChest + 0.2*rValueOfButt + 0.1*rValueOfFrontShoe + 0.1*rValueOfBackShoe. Code here: https://github.com/jasonrohrer/OneLife/ … .cpp#L7361

So as you can see, as smaller rValue is better, with different categories of clothing having different impacts (chest being the most important). Currently the best set of clothing is Wool Hat + Wool Sweater + Reed Skirt + Wool Booties.

This would imply that the grass skirt is the best item of clothing in the game and the seal coat is the worst. I somehow don't think that's correct.

#393 Re: Main Forum » New Map scanned yet? » 2018-03-14 20:18:37

The only difference being that when the biome generation changes, like for example when a new biome is added, the already explored locations are not updated with the new bioome generation. So at best, going from the code, you can see a map of what the world looks like if it was generated from brand new, with that particular set of biomes. If you want to see a map of the world if the biome generation changed partway through exploration, you would need to combine two different maps, and you'd need to know which areas have been explored.

Lag and desync fixes are going live right now. Hail Jason.

#395 Re: Main Forum » SDL.dll was not found » 2018-03-14 01:06:37

Might be a write protect issue. Try installing it somewhere else.

This problem is more commonly a symptom of trying to run the game from within the .zip file instead of extracting it first, but if you used the .exe, that's not going to be the cause.

Don't dig up wild carrots period.

#397 Re: Main Forum » Players are interesting in this game » 2018-03-13 07:25:01

Just keep playing and learning. Each new life is a new start. You don't need to feel like "oh I made a hash of this character, I need to start again." because you start again every hour at least.

#399 Re: Main Forum » Jason Is working on Net code. » 2018-03-13 03:36:20

Jason is rolling back the changes made to reduce the lag since this either caused or exposed the bug with the desyncing. Desync is worse than lag, but prepare yourselves.

Yes, this is an issue. If you die on a farm plot, everything is lost. Spread the word!
