BreezeKnight Still Worth Reading

I started reading some of BreezeKnight's posts.  This one especially seemed good:

BreezeKnight wrote:

players retention of this game is HORRIBLE

& that's because the trailers, screenshots & descriptions promiss something that the gameplay doesn't deliver in the least

a game about civilization building & parenting
where half of the babies & kids die because of mechanics like /die added, mothers killing their babies unpunished, no features included to actually rear kids & teach kids, family doesn't matter at all, dead are pile of bones in the way, lineage only in browser not game, killers still present in lineage, unaddressed issue of experienced players spawned as babies to noobs ...
where artificial features like fences, curses, spawn bans, war swords & one blow kills meet the lack of organizational tools, *lack of reward for being constructive* [emphasis added]

Other quotes:

the players can only play what's there

if Jason doesn't give players options & tools to play peacefully, to build peace, to prefer constructivity over destructivity, then they just choose the easiest way & VIOLENCE is always the easiest way !

if a game has violence included, players will choose violence, which will attract more violent players while constructive players will leave
especially in a gaming landscape FILLED with all sorts of violent games, players are TRAINED to kill in games, all games that have kiling not included are titled "casual" meantime, casual as in "not a real game"

...

mods empowering griefers [relative to new players.. leading to less enjoyment for new players because of playerkilling]

....

no support of constructivity (blessing system) but only acknowledgment of destructivity (curse system)

...

no freedom to heal oneself but made artificially forced into dependence on others to be healed

...

murderers included in the lineage [lack of disownment]

...

Eves reduced to powerless baby machines [or baby droppers]

...

still no baby sling but still females reduced to random & unwilling baby spouting machines

I'm pretty sure YOU are BreezeKnight. I'm not even kidding, You two are very similar. At the very least you are a copycat or see yourself as a successor to him.

That being said you both have some good points if it wasn't such a drag to read any of your posts. Maybe you'd gain more traction in the mud that is this community.

Re: BreezeKnight Still Worth Reading

I completely agree. Player retention is god fucking awful.

In my opinion it's because of the horrible tutorial. They are completely lost in the game and have no idea what to do. Onetech NEEDS to be inside the game. I've talked to so many new people who have no idea it exists.

Also new players get griefed a lot because they don't understand what's going on and they get really upset about it thinking they did something wrong. I think this would go back to the trailer being misleading.

Sidenote: I appreciate you not necroing a post and creating your own based on past posts.

I'm Slinky and I hate it here.
I also /blush.

Re: BreezeKnight Still Worth Reading

Yeah, I remember how overwhelming this game was when I was new.   Even after doing the tutorial, I had almost no idea how to survive.   I was dead as a toddler in my first three lives - the first time because I didn't know I needed to start feeding myself when I grew hair, then in my next life, my mom abandoned me.   And in the next life, my mom was killed by my aunt and no one bothered to care for me, so we both died.    In my fourth life, I found myself back at the same place where I died the first time, but now I knew what the hunger bell meant, so I managed to survive in the berry patch long enough to learn how to do a few things before I wandered too far from food and died in the middle of town.

I can only imagine how much more confusing it must be to navigate the current systems with tool slots, racial restrictions, language barriers, property fences, hierarchies, posses, and more.   None of this is even mentioned in the tutorial and older youtube videos also don't make any mention of these features, so you will be completely lost.    Most of this stuff isn't even mentioned on the game's wiki.
