When I've used the bore before I've used a sledge (baskets used to decay), or just picked up rods off of the ground and threw steel pipes/pump valve jackets/wick housing on the ground (not much time to find baskets if doing engine work on bs2).
So, I'm in my low pop town, and I figure I'll use baskets to use the bore. I have my rods in baskets, pick them up, and try to throw steel pipes in the baskets. Steel rods fit in baskets, but steel pipes do not, which seems rather inconsistent especially with how quickly the newcomen multipurpose engine runs out.
That all said someone on the discord told me the following:
"I always put rods in baskets so the idiots won't bore them
I've had to remake so many godamn rods"

Come on spoony, everyone knows rods are small containable and pipes large containable.

I honestly didn't remember that testo. Maybe at one time I knew that and I forgot, but baskets used to decay, so using baskets to do engine work when I first did them didn't seem worth it to me. When I did engine work on bs2, it always felt rushed to make serious inroads or complete a project. Rolling out enough pipes for an oil rig? Well, I needed to get all the other materials to do that also. The stone blocks, the rope, the pump beam kit. So, it just didn't seem right to look around for or make extra baskets for that purpose. Get enough branches for kindling also. And half the time I didn't just do that in my life, there were other things like water berry bushes because they take so long to regrow, or picking carrots that might soon go to seed that did take up my time.
Also, does steel expand after one has added heat to it AND it has cooled? I honestly don't know. Rods and pipes look very similar.

A pipe will necessarily be larger in at least one dimension than the rod it came from, unless you get multiple pipes from the same rod (which is not the case in OHOL, I know). The material at the center of the rod has to go somewhere.

I was just kidding, the inconsistency comes from the fact the bore mechanism doesn´t act as a mold but a drill. The material in the center is just lost since you are not heating the steel before boring it.
Today, while restarting a new project on a side server, I discovered that you can store up to five baskets in a box, as long as they have the same items on them. But shhhh!!! don´t tell Jason.

Was it? I tried to put steel pipes in a basket in the last hour and they didn't fit. Maybe I just barely missed the window.
