My mother didn’t have a last name. She named me Maria and I had an older brother. Where they were living was a bad spot. There was barely enough for one, so as soon as I was a 3 year old, I struck out on my own. I bravely ventured through desserts, mountains, and snow until I found another pasture with lots of berries, a huge savanna with rabbits galore, but only one pond.
I made my camp near the most berry bushes and made the rudimentary tools. I trapped rabbits and made clothes for me and my daughter. I had 3 sons who died and 2 daughters, one of whom lived. I named her Gaia with the hope that she would continue the line.
Once Gaia grew old enough, she had two sons and two daughters. The two sons died and then we struck out with her and the two daughters to find more ponds. I was old by then, but I had a backpack full of water pouches and food.
Sadly, my daughter died and soon after the youngest daughter died. I told the oldest to "Quickly follow" me. Using my knowledge of the area, I found a berry bush and fed her berries until she was old enough to eat herself. I told her about the land and that she needed to travel to find a better place. I gave her all my clothes and my backpack. She promised she would survive and have daughters once she settled. I hope she did.
As I post this, she is still living her life and probably in her teenage years.
Mother, if you're reading this - know that your line survived to your great granddaughter (and probably beyond).
