The term 'baby shaking' refers to the mother rapidly picking up a child up and down. The player behind the mother does this because they want less food for some reason, perhaps to increase their potential yum for fertility purposes as someone said they were trying to do recently on the discord, and picking up a baby takes a pip of food away. I remember getting born to one of two twin Eves once and I got baby shook as a fairly new player a while back. I had a sort of bizarre feeling. It might end up rather disorienting to players and getting baby shook like that isn't realistic at all.
In light of that it's plausible to think that the game without the mother losing a pip of food when picking up a baby might be slightly more enjoyable for new players on average.
That said, it would be more interesting to hear how a new player, has felt after getting baby shook.
Edit:
Women in OHOL require more food than men almost always, because of the pip drain from feeding a child. But, its longstanding and I think virtually unquestioned, if questioned at all, among experts that men in the aggregate will need more food than women in the aggregate.

I have never seen 'baby shaking' in game, but I haven't been playing long... and we already had some polite banter on the breastfeeding topic on Twisted stream this morning.
but it got me thinking. Once again, as a rl bfing mom... babywearing would be helpful. Women, back in the day, didn't sit around the fire feeding babies, like in game. They strapped those sucker on their back/fronts and helped around the farm. Babywearing has been practiced for centuries, and having a way to babywear in game might not be practical for a lot of situations, but it could help in some cases.
Just thinking out loud.

You are not the first to suggest a baby sling. Personally, I think it is a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, there are technical and philosophical barriers in place that make it unlikely to make it into the game.

I don't think it's that big of a turn-off probably. But if stopping an exploit was the goal perhaps make it so Moms don't lose a pip if the baby they pick up is already full?
Artificially wasting food to boost personal fertility is detrimental to the village generally, someone else from your family is most likely to have that baby anyway if you didn't to my understanding.
