Re: 12 minutes...

IF I buy the game on steam, will I receive a key to download and play from the desktop version as well? (without log in in steam)

Re: 12 minutes...

Yeah, Twitchi, this is one of the big reasons I don't like sales.  They are a "gotcha" to your true-blue fans who are willing to pay full price.

I haven't put any of my games on sale for 6 years for this reason....

Re: 12 minutes...

Jason a 'gotcha' is someone intentionally trying to deceive someone else to make them look like a fool.  Anyone who thinks that your sale is an intentional slight against previous players is just wrong.  I realize you weren't using gotcha literally, but I don't think it fair to yourself to make that comparison either.

Re: 12 minutes...

I’ve received far more value from the game than the $20 I spent on it, so the sale doesn’t bother me.

Is what it is. I never mind paying full price on a game if it is worth it.  wink
I'm am just finding the irony that I was itching to buy it for so long and when finally decided to treat myself .... I'm laughing. It's been one of those years. smile

Re: 12 minutes...

Well, I meant for the players who bought the game an hour ago, or yesterday.

It's against the Steam rules (and common sense) to announce a sale ahead of time, so yesterday's buyers do get burned by it.

That's why the rising price model is better, but I don't think it works that well in the modern climate.  Steam has trained everyone to wait for the sales.

For example, I still have something like 2x more wishlishts than purchases on Steam.  Wishlists are people who are waiting for the game to go on sale.  They get an email whenever the game is on sale.

So when you finally put your game on sale, there's a huge mass of pent up buyers that come raining down.

About as many people bought the game last hour as bought the game in 24 hours yesterday.

Re: 12 minutes...

If it was a day later it might have been a bit better. It sounds like steam did ya dirty by not having it go right up until the autumn sale on the 22nd.

Can confirm. First time playing in a couple of weeks, popped so many bbs that I starved just trying to give everyone a halfway decent chance. Of course, there's no chance for these players when there's so much competition for baby care, and so few experienced players to give care *and* develop a town. Cut the pip drain in half for the next week, and we might get somewhere.

Re: 12 minutes...

I haven't played yet today, but why are there so many babies per family? How many families are there? Shouldn't new eves spawn once there are more people playing?

I only played once today (about an hour ago) and it's chaos right now. No idea how many families there are, and I haven't kept up with the status of the Eve spawn rules, so I can't say. Heaven help any Eves that spawn in the next few days.

Tonight I told every new player born to me to not let this first experience ruin the game for them. I'm telling them to come back in a few days when things have settled down a bit and experienced players can actually coach them.

Re: 12 minutes...

I think it might have something to do with people needing a relatively high gene score to get to be Eve at all. New Eve's should spawn, but it can't be one of the bazillion new players. Veteran players however live much longer than the average noob.

Say there's 8 noobs and 2 veterans, noobs live to age 10 on average (which is generous in this situation), veterans to age 60. If looking at gene score, only the veterans should get to be Eve.

The birthrate isn't 80% noobs and 20% veterans, cuz the noobs can live 6 times as many lives as the veteran can in the same amount of time. This means babies are more like 96% noobs and 4% veterans. Then count in that the veterans aren't fertile for over half their life, and all the babies get dumped on the ones that are. In the next life, the veteran may have tanked so much in score that they don't get to be Eve (again), but instead they're born as girls into an existing family. Once there are enough girls in the family, boys start being born. No new families, but a large influx of players being dumped on a still low number of fertile women.

Can also consider that the players with the highest gene score in the game at any given time (setting that bar for who gets to Eve) only play one life and then decide not to play another. They would get to Eve, but simply don't because they don't want to indulge in the madness. Anyone with a lower score doesn't get to Eve cuz of being compared to that player who doesn't actually play after.

No worries you drop from that "veteran spot" with your eve runs... --->from 64 to 30 today, guess no more eve runs for me XD

Re: 12 minutes...

Since there is another hidden stat "average life span", maybe people with very high average life span should be eves and not people with high genes. A person that always lives to 60 most likely would be also a good Eve.
