Not sure how this would work exactly. What happens to all springs outside the range of each well after the max number of wells are made?
Do they also go thoroughly dry? How can we know if we are just very far away or in range of one of the wells?

When a well taps out an area (either small area before 6 are built, or huge area when the 6th is built), it replaces springs with dry springs.
However, when a well taps out a small area (before the last one is built), it leaves thoroughly dry springs in the same row as the well.
The thoroughly dry springs are along the same ley line as the well. So by walking E or W and following thoroughly dry springs, you can find wells.
And this makes sense, because the well sucks the water out of the ley line, making the springs along that line really dry.
In generally, I want to curtail the random searching around wherever I can.

It'd be nice to have a bit more info than just dry/thoroughly dry, like some type of 'gradient'. If I find a thoroughly dry well, there's still a 50% chance I'll walk in the wrong direction, and especially as Eve (which is most of the times I'll be looking for one anyway) that's a lot of time wasted.

Yeah, I'm thinking about how to do this.
The current map engine kinda applies these transitions "blind".
Ideally, I'd like it to show a little wooden "arrow" pointing E or W. Or have a visibly "drier" side or something.
I'll need something similar when tarry spots use the same mechanism, so I guess I'll spend some time figuring it out.

we have solved this when we made roads to tar monument
