Idea: Natural Disasters to fix long-term stagnation & clutter

Say you have a town that's been getting real old. A volcano appears! Lava ever so slowly or maybe in occasional bursts comes out of the volcano and spreads around.
The lava destroys anything that it touches. But you have time to run and move everything moveable that's of value to a new location and rebuild.

Maybe the volcano never stops erupting, or maybe it does stop and then the lava fades away revealing new land that's been wiped/reset.

The point is to somehow address long-term clutter and difficulty. You can leave the clutter behind and say goodbye to it. And it's a challenge that isn't too magical for old lineages.

Neither the diesel engine, nor the newcomen multipurpose engine can move.  Wall structures can't move (assuming city walls are important... that's Jason's assumption, isn't it?).  Adult animals can't get moved by us reliably.  Not everything fits in a cart.  The parts on an oil rig can't get removed.

I don't like this idea, Jason wants cities to last, not punish them for being there for many generations
