a multiplayer game of parenting and civilization building

Shrine is interesting.
The problem is, it would take a while for people to build it, and then you get born elsewhere in the mean time.
Oh shrines you say?
Do you like the Grim?
Simple but powerful. Offering the cactus gods a fruit bestows luck on you, and your children.
Or maybe the Kilian?
Recognized and highly customize-able. Praise be
Or even the Tarr

I'm flying high. But the worst is never first, and there's a person that'll set you straight. Cancelling the force within my brain. For flying high. The simulator has been disengaged.

And for those of you living two lives per day, yeah... you really should be living in two different villages, and never ever coming back. That's really what this game is about.
But Jason ... I want to come back. I want to see how my great, great, great, great grandchildren are getting on in the village I helped build up eight hours ago.
It is NOT the same village. It is a new and interesting experience. Why not let me create new stories that I can share with my children?

NOW, for the really hard design problem (which some of you have observed):
How to avoid some kind of "walking" Eve spawn. Currently, wild resources become permanently exhausted, so we do need to look for greener pastures at some point.... otherwise, Eve-ing will get harder and harder and harder, and eventually become impossible. And I don't want wild resources to respawn, because obviously, that will undercut the long-term challenge of running a village.
Removing the "can't spawn a short object above a tall object" bug/feature would help with this. If there exists too much of something like rabbits or ponds, then just tune down the spawn quantity of that something (road builders definitely CAN use more flat rocks in a given area... I have built many roads on s12 and flatties are a serious holdup in that sort of project).
Players who want to keep working on their personal project in the game will be encouraged to "take a break" from the game for 90 minutes and then come back and SIDS back to their project village. This would become a pattern. Why bother playing anywhere else, or getting invested in other places and stories?
I believe this HIGHLY unlikely and you're worried about a non-issue here. 90 minutes is plenty of time for someone else to do something else with whatever you started on bs2. Remember your personal project of setting up an oil rig that you couldn't finish the other day? That almost surely won't be the same in 90 minutes unless someone didn't find the rig or something.
Also, people ARE already walking back to spots (e. g. Tarr) OR use multiple accounts to get around living only one life in a place. So why are you worried about something that you can't prevent anyways?
People having more ability to play in the same spot would also encourage them to play for their lineages.
And for those of you living two lives per day, yeah... you really should be living in two different villages, and never ever coming back. That's really what this game is about.
No, Jason they SHOULD be living in the same village, for those who enjoy that experience, since that's what they enjoy (and it's not harmful to other people). Their game is NOT about your vision. It's about THEIR experience. Once they have bought and played the game, the game is theirs, NOT yours. Furthermore Jason, THEY find the stories they have more interesting if they can live in the same spot twice. You said you wanted more interesting stories, and multiple people have told you that they find stories more interesting when they have lived in the same spot multiple times. What you or Twisted find interesting, and I'm not saying that Twisted shouldn't have the ability to live in a different town every life since that's what he wants, isn't what everyone finds interesting. Please realize that other people find different stories interesting than what you find interesting, and please enable people to effectively get reborn in the same spot on bs2 since that's what THEY will find interesting (and they aren't harming other people), and take into account that it would encourage people to play for their lineages more often.
Have a nice day!

You're here because of my vision, Spoonwood.
If you want to work on the same project all day in a crafting/building game, there are dozens and dozens of other games on Steam that let you do just that.
If you want this game to be just like every other crafting/building game, then why are you even here? You're here because this game is different. It's different because of my vision for it.
Minecraft where you die of old age every hour and have to respawn would be a really stupid game.

Your descendants might share you with that one crazy time that a bear came to town. Or when the oil rig just wouldn't gush. Or the griefer who light things on fire. There would be more stories to know about. Oh, and that crazy thing about people getting born back into their village. That's just the tip of the iceberg for all the crazy and interesting stories that could emerge from people playing in the same village more than once on bs2. And more people would feel inclined to play for their lineages.

No. Vision itself doesn't do much. Also, I play because I enjoy it. Some facets of game mechanics. I originally started playing after watching other people play on Twitch for a bit. I don't know if you can check, but maybe try to check out how many hours I've logged on low pop servers versues how many I've logged on bigservers or the main servers before that.
If you want to work on the same project all day in a crafting/building game, there are dozens and dozens of other games on Steam that let you do just that.
That can happen on low population servers already. Additionally, you're trying to argue against my desire. It's pointless to argue against people's desire Jason. If you don't realize that, you don't seem to realize that people control their own emotions.
If you want this game to be just like every other crafting/building game, then why are you even here? You're here because this game is different. It's different because of my vision for it.

I haven't played Minecraft. But you yourself played in a town where you have no idea if an oil rig got wet, let alone if oil got made. It would NOT have been a stupid game if you had gotten reborn, since you might have then gotten oil up yourself or see what happened. Additionally, plenty of people play OHOL where they can respawn via Eve chaining on low population public servers, play on servers like Greep's OCS or Chomp's server (if it's still active, which I don't know about), walk back to spots like Tarr... heck Whatever designed a mod where other family's locations was originally a feature and there's now an absolute coordinate mod, or have multiple accounts and play multiple lives in the same town that way. Didn't you see DestinyCall's request above?
Additionally, the crafting/building game of OHOL is NOT different in a positive way because of the 'can't get reborn in the same spot' aspect. It's more the sounds and the way in which things get crafted. On top of that, the game larger concerns food production which I would maintain is different from crafting and building.
The one hour feature is nice, because it's nice timing to take a break, such as a bathroom break, before playing again, or stretch. It doesn't have to do with uniqueness for some of us. For others it does, but people who want to play like Twisted can and players who want to play in the same town multiple times like Whatever encouraged can do that. And please remember that I'm dead serious that the part of your vision which wants people to only play one time in a certain location, isn't something I particularly enjoy and plenty of others don't also. They are NOT lying to you Jason. They have been honest in stating their desire.
Again, have a good day Jason.
