Ancient stone wall

Not so much a bug, but probably an oversight. An ancient stone wall can't be knocked down, but a normal stone wall can be knocked down with a pickaxe. There is no reason why they should be any different.

This is intentional, an intention I also really don't like, but it's not a bug.

It takes 10 hours though, if its been there for that long, it's probably not in the way.  Plus it gives the feeling of breaking into "Ancient" temples, when you need to work around them.

It quite possibly is in the way but no one could muster the 40 iron pickaxes needed to remove the building made out of them.
