Idea: craftable timelapse "camera"

An item you can craft that is essentially a player that can't move on its own, interact, and needs no food. It just takes one zoomed-out snapshot around itself every min. This content can be viewed after you die, outside of the game so you can see what happened to your village and how much it changed when you were there.

In game it could be some sort of totem-looking thing with an eye.

Useful for greifers, but mostly to just see the impact you and your family had.

Did you strip the berry bushes and take all of the plates to the wilderness? Did you build a road? Did you have a million babies and fill the nursery?

The recipe should be about as hard as knives, bows, since it would also serve as a kind of surveillance to some degree.

Probably to fanciful to have, but I would love to see this game from other perspectives and get a sense of the bigger project that we all take part in.

Re: Idea: craftable timelapse "camera"

This is a cool idea. I'd say it should probably be much higher on the tech tree than knives, though, probably more like a bell tower (or maybe the bell tower is the thing itself). I'd also say that no one should have access to the time-lapse (or whatever) until the lineage dies out: this would both incentivize longer lineages ("oh sweet! this place has a watchtower! the longer we live the more we'll get to see!") and discourage babies cycling through lineages to get back to the city they just saw pictures of. But when the lineage dies out, everyone in that lineage gets a notification and access to the time-lapse.

I do worry though that this'd also incentivize many different forms of griefing, as their "contributions" will be documented for all to see. Buildings walled off, sheep pens destroyed, various forms of graffiti (profanity or hate speech on signs, buildings in the shape of phalluses, etc.).

A similar idea would be to have some kind of totem or archive that permanently stores whatever notes are fed into it, and the whole archive is readable upon lineage end. Not the same, of course, and maybe they'll be full of nothing but spam notes, but it could be cool.

Call it a time capsule. Feed notes, are notes are consumed?

Re: Idea: craftable timelapse "camera"

what would be nice if instead of only being able to wright on a piece of paper you could also draw on it... (and paint once we get brushes) using the mouse to draw a picture on the piece...

what would also be nice if you could make a time capsule, or an iron box, it will have the same storage as a basket, and once filled it can be buried, once the apocalypse accrues then the box will appear above ground as an ancient box.. which could be opened and the contents taken out of, with your drawing and some notes of the past!

Use a knife on a bears caracas a 2nd time for a "bear's eye"
Put the eye in a sand bowl. Add molten gold to cast a "gold eye"
Add the "gold eye" to the bell for "bell with all-seeing eye"

It takes a photo when the bell is rung.

Agree!

I just learned on the mobile version you can observe your family after you died. Pretty cool. However.. you have to pay extra for it big_smile
