I have calculated some player statistics from the life logs and find the results quite interesting. So here we go:
I have only considered the data for that time range, so the peak in the beginning is due to players that have already played before October.
From October through December the life logs report a total of 26886 different players.
25529 of those (95%) have played less than half an hour per day during that time. I think this number especially shows what a tiny minority we forum nerds are.
1677 people were born for the first time between November 12, 12:00 and Nov 13, 12:00 (UTC).
Somebody played almost 9 hours per day over the course of three months. Wow.
These are the top 10 average daily playing hours:
1. 8.86
2. 6.59
3. 4.69
4. 4.65
5. 4.59
6. 4.54
7. 3.85
8. 3.85
9. 3.75
10. 3.68

Hmmm, I'm probably in that top ten list towards the top... as I say in game, "I play a lot"
I'm trying to cope with an evolving chronic pain and disability situation. OHOL is something that I enjoy and get a sense of accomplishment from, while the rest of my family are off being normal members of society.
In other words....I don't necessarily recommend this lifestyle.

You know, I assumed you wouldn't be able to get player specific info from the life data... but if you can.... Can you graph how many murders a player has committed? Or the average murder committed per hour played? That's what I really want to know.
I really think there are a few players out there ruining this for the rest of us.

Iiiiiiiiiinteresting.
Average hours per day played - is that "since the player started playing" or "since the start of the analysis period" ? Hopefully the former. Three-and-a-half hours per week seems like a reasonable cut-off for "likes to play the game and plays a lot" versus "has played the game some but probably isn't really into it", but only if it's fairly comparing people who bought the game last month with those who bought it last year.
Cool work as always, and thanks again for sharing.

Jason posted some numbers along those lines a loooong time back, I think, and it was something like a very few people committed a very large proportion of the murders. Would be interesting to see up-to-date numbers. Maybe a plot of murder frequency (# murders / # players) over time?
I feel like there's a wealth of valuable information just waiting to be mined from the life and death logs, for as basic as that data seems at first. Cluster analysis to identify towns, plot their locations, determine their longevity, determine their eve-repopulation rate, graph that rate over time, correlate to events like the steam release and the spiral reduction and the respawn fixes...
I'm impressed and thankful any time thundersen squeezes the data harder.

You're very welcome! I'm glad some people find this interesting.
It's the latter, or rather during the analysis period. I agree that 3.5h/week since started playing (or beginning of life log records) would be a better filter. It would require a bit more work. I might give it a try later this week.

Yes I can, and that's one of the things I'm after. Will do!
Sorry to hear about your health issues, my forum friend.

Yeah, that data is richer than it seems at first glance. All of this and more would be possible, it's just a question of how much time one would be willing to spend...

Hmm, the only old post I found was discussing the players receiving curses and spending time in donkey town. It was from back when he tweaked the formulas for the length of time people spend in donkey town.
Copied the rest of your quote because... YES! I'd love to see us identify towns in the data, and I really appreciate everything thundersen is doing to make this data freshly squeezed.

That's kinda weird that the top two avg hours played are so dramatically different from the rest. Like everything below that seems to gradually taper down but, boom, two huge jumps.

Thanks CE,
I had not seen the original post you linked, but had seen the second one.
I'd be interested in the average murder rate per month for September through now. I'm pretty sure it's higher than 1.7%, especially if you filter out SIDS and starvation before the age of ten.
Jason provided the total bodycount for the top murderers, but I think a player's number of murders committed per hour played could be interesting.
Thundersen, thanks for agreeing to update the murder rate. And the kind words about my health.

Theres also this thread, which found murder was 4.2% of the causes of death. Dated between curses and donkey town implementation.

Jason had looked into that in the past here. He found the attrition rate was about 50% per week.
Not your question, but another obvious fact is the overall attrition rate can also be calculated from thundersen's graphs easily:
Whenever the total active population is mostly constant, we are losing the same # of players as players that are coming in.

Probably Tarr, he skyrocketed up the time playedpast all the people I'd been eyeing for months.
Maybe it was me, but who knows, could have been any of them on there.
Funny thing, I used to check my played time via the player review before and after I played for the day, but I found coming to this page was taking a significant amount of nonsleeping nonplaying time, so I just fall asleep in my chair while playing and click get reborn soon as I wake up. Saves a lot of time. Then I make coffee from age 0-3.

Is there a way to know your ID and to check whether you are on that "top 10 list" for example?
Also how and where do you access all that data? And what do you use to parse it? I'd like to learn. Not asking for a guide, just a bit info that can get me started.
And great work, really intriguing. Thanks a lot!
EDIT: Forget what I said, I found the original thread and it's too overwhelming to me right now. For those who had the same questions as me: https://onehouronelife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2529

Thundersen went through the extra effort and shared their parsing Python script here

Yeah it's either Morti or me for that top spot. Since the game released on steam I've put in 327 hours so about 4.7 hours a day (though after the eve changes I completely stopped playing for a week and a half.) Though I certainly wouldn't be surprised if that was me at the top spot either considering I can remember at times putting 12+ hours a day into games such as WoW or LoL.
When eve chaining was still a thing I generally played 4~7 lives in one session before deciding to off to do something else and later returning before bed to play a bit more.
fug it’s Tarr.

I think the top spot is Joriom, who apparently ran a bot. But maybe he's stopped playing since then? There were some threads about that.

While Joriom indeed did run a bot the data in that graph is from 10/1/18 - 12/31/18. Though as I did my own math I might actually only be ranked third as my steam time played came out to 4.69 which I rounded up to 4.7 in my post without actually looking and noting that's the exact number of third place.
So if Jason wouldn't have changed Eve chaining when he did I would likely be >5 hr played per day. Not that that's actively a good thing.

Well the graph shows "new players" doesn't it? So you can't see the attrition there.

Hmm, I have listed the top players' top 3 Eve names for my own amusement, but I'm not comfortable making that public without their consent. If anyone thinks they're in that list and they want to claim bragging rights, feel free to pm me your SHA1, if you know it, and/or your favourite Eve names. If three or more people do that, I could open up an extra thread for that topic. If not, I'll just send you your stats.
An important caveat I forgot to mention is that 2% (28116/1399989) of all lives during that time were not logged correctly and many of those belong to EVE JONES. I'm not sure why that happens, so if someone here plays a lot as EVE JONES and has an idea (awbz mod die feature maybe?), please let me know.
