Wild berry bushes and cactuses shouldn't be an infinite source of food like bananas were.
Edit: I'd like to rewrite my reasoning.
I just think that mid-late towns should have to be self sustaining for food.
Food becomes so easy for late towns, and lots of people are bored by late towns, so why not get rid of infinite sources to make it a bit harder.
Wild berry bushes and cactusus makes life too easy for them when things go bad.
Especially in towns with low population, you can even live solely off accumulating cactus fruits or just stepping out to eat from a bush.
And if you do gathering work, you can live solely off infinite food and save the town food.

It is not an issue. Gathering wild crops can support only very little civilization, while causing problems, because people have problems with surviving such runs.
However, I agree wild plants should be more interesting, for immersive gameplay. Imagine, you leave eradicate a far green biome from everything but milkweed, you go there back 20 minutes later only to discover, milkweed reclaimed most of the land. It would be something
Suggestions: more basic tools, hugs, more violence, day/night, life tokens, yum 2.0

The thing is even while things like wild bushes and cacti are unlimited neither are worth setting out on horseback to constantly bring back to village like you think. When eggs were 10 minute per egg people would just throw them in the trash area of town or litter them around the ponds that hadn't been upgraded in or around a town. I didn't even think eggs needed their nerf considering that historically people just stop cooking eggs BUT they keep picking eggs off ponds.
Cacti end up have a 5 minute window to pick it in the fruiting state for 10 pips while berries just regrow one berry or 5 pips per ten minutes. The only time it's beneficial to send someone on horse cart for berries is when the towns composting cycle gets messed up. Even then you can only get one bowl of berries per bush per hour.
If you aren't out in the field foraging for items you're more than likely just wasting your time mid-late game scurrying around from berry bush to berry bush just to eat.

The median citizen is a massive drain on town resources. So anything you do has to have a huge impact in the long term. And while theoretically gathering cacti fruit might be just fine, all you're doing is feeding newbies in maybe two generations. Keep the current town fed, but leave a bigger mark.
Besides, lets be real, horsecarts with baskets are pretty much endgame anyways xD You can do any number of incredibly useful things.

Eggs were really really good and still are, people just don't like doing or don't know how to do eggs but that doesn't make them balanced.
Look at milk, it's the best food in the game, by so so so far, really doesn't make sense. But almost no one does it.

Individually they're not much, but there's a shitload of berry bushes and cacti around any point on the map.

Well, on a main server, milk/omelettes/popcorn/etc usually aren't that great. Every bucket of milk is one less sorely needed bucket (and cows being bugged doesn't help). Every omelette is one less pie or bread, every popcorn one less bowl. If people mass harvest rope and clay needed for food infrastructure, then they're awesome, but this is rarely done because the few people gathering resources are usually dealing with several crises. So usually "OP food" is just taking up container space for pies, water, stantion kits etc

I don't get it why people see problems where there are none. How many towns actually do this? This is the same as people who complained about eggs, because it work indefinitely!!!!!!! Yet how many towns actually lived more than 48 hours?
IMO if you tribe stay small, it should be possible to live a wildlife....

Not an issue, but would be nice to be able to farm cactus and most importantly dig or chop cactus as they take space in sometimes important areas like the forge, the kitchen or the middle of a road in construction

and most importantly dig or chop cactus
Which would be yet another tool for griefers to cause permanent damage.

I mean it would line up with our ability to ruin all the wild berry bushes in an Eve camp.

I agree with everything lionon said. When was wild berry and cacti regen ever an issue? They regen slow enough that people will die if they rely entirely on them. Domestic berries are much more of an issue to the game economy than wild ones and we only ever see cactus fruit pilling up occasionally around roads or by desert edges.

You can already ruin wild berry bushes and no griefer does it because it's boring and even if they do who cares about a bunch of cactus if you can plant them

Very much agree that this is just another one of those "on paper its unbalanced/broken but in actuality it doesn't affect anyone" issues. Like omelettes. And eve chaining. And ground iron prior to the nerf. So many nonproblems getting 'fixes' because 'well muh data says' or 'but theoretically.' Should focus on problems that are actually problems, imo. Like how potatoes are so shit that people are willing to kill anyone that plants them, or bugged cows, etc.

I disagree on iron. The fact people still complain so much about it shows how much it made a difference, now it's actually somewhat hard to get iron. Problem is, as before, towns still die faster than iron runs out. At least it's not so easy to get engines going.
