Baby suicide fix is in (new /die command)

Your mother can only force hold you for your first minute.

During that time you can say /die to die of sudden infant death, but only while she's holding you.  This clears her birth cooldown, bans you from her lineage, and insta-kills you.

It also leaves her holding an adorable token of your existence.

This is going to make for a really fun trick when new players join the game. "Baby are you new? Cool, here let me show you a cool trick, all you have to do is type /die."

Can confirm it works. Going to enjoy playing with baby skeletons later.

Unfortunately, I don't think the lineage part works. I'm nearly 99% certain I killed myself twice to the same woman.

Tarr, can you keep an eye out for more information here?

I have tested it on my end, and the lineage ban part seems to work.

Oh.... and it only works if the population of the server that you're on is over 10 people.  Also, the amount of time you need to live in another line is 1.5 hours, but that shrinks as well when the population drops below 50.

The multiplier is M = (POP - 10 ) / 40.

Then we take M * 1.5 hours to find out how long you must live in a different line before returning to this line.


I'm gonna go make a bunch of live baby skeletons now and see what happens.

Crap, you're right.

It isn't working.  I was born to Solaris Ide twice just now.

Hmm...

But BOY are there a lot of different mothers and family lines to go through.  So much variety!  I haven't done a lot of repeat baby suicide, so I didn't realize just how many parallel operations are going on in this game, even with a small server pop of 40 people.

I can't reproduce this on my test server.  I wonder what's going on here.  Maybe the way it's detecting lines is screwed up for long lines like this.  Obviously, on my test server, I'm always dealing with direct descendants of Eve...

Found the bug.... it's a funny one.

In order to force a lineage ban, when you /die, I push the "timeLived" up to 30 minutes.  This logs 30 minutes in this line, so you have "lived enough" in this line to trigger the ban.

However, that same 30 "fake" minutes is also being logged as "time lived in other lines" for all the lines you're currently banned from.

You need to live 1.5 hours in other lines before you can come back to a line.

By calling /die over and over, you're logging 30 minutes in a bunch of different lines, which ends up freeing you to go back to the original line again.  You've "done your time" in other lines.

So, if you do this a lot, you will revisit the same lines over and over.  Fixing this now.

probably because of server update
everyone being sent to server 2 so you don't get any if you're on server 1
then back to server 1 once updated so if you ended on server 2 you won't have any again.


I will be eve tana. If not an eve, my kids will be called numerically : Primo, Duo, Tertio, Quattro, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus, Octavius etc... ending with an -a if you're a girl.

I'm trying to understand the logic here.

People were running off to die a lot because they didn't like their spawn. So then mothers could force-hold them to keep them from running off. But then only for one minute, and during that minute the player could /die anyway if they didn't like their spawn.

So as things stand now:

If you don't like your spawn you can run off to die. Unless your mother wants to keep you, and is fast enough to grab you first, in which case you have to wait until she lets you go, or until one minute passes, whichever comes first, and then you can run off to die. Or, you can say /die when she grabs you, and then you don't have to run off. But you can't /die unless she grabs you; if she doesn't grab you you have to run off.

What is the point of all of this?

The point is using the /die command "legacy" bans you from respawning into the same family.
Currently there are three ways to prevent you from being respawned in such a manner:
If you get old enough.
If you die from being killed.
And if you use /die.

Prior to the /die command kids had to convince adults to get their hands on a weapon, which is tricky one letter at a time and not always feasible depending on resources available to the town. When the adults were Eve or Eve-esque they had to resort to running away from their mother. But that was flawed as you could keep on being respawned to the same mother five, six times. Certain players got mad at this and would knock on bear caves to possibly kill the mother so they wouldn't have this mum to respawn to.

The newborns not being able to wiggle free is a measure implemented to make sure the child doesn't accidentally leap out constantly, starving the mother - amongst other things.
