Raven and Caasi Hurst

Raven was born during a time of prosperity, with plenty of pies and stews and compost to go around. Her mother, Amena dropped her off at the nursery with a cluster of other small children to be raised by the town's wet nurse. She was barely old enough to talk when a boy named Caasi, only a few years older than her, stepped away from the fire and said "Raven, are you a doughnut? Because you're all curves and sugar."

Raven was taken aback and rejected his advances, confused and embarrassed to be talked to in such a way. Years went by, but he would visit her every so often to remind her that he was still single and that he was in love with her. "You're the only one for me."

She decided to make the town a bit more beautiful and set to work finding wild rose seeds to turn into rose bushes along the walls of the hospital. Her goal was soon accomplished when Caasi found her again and told her that he had a gift for her. He set a rose at her feet, along with a note that he read aloud, "Kiss the cook." Smiling at his gesture, it seemed that he had finally worn her down.

The man was obviously in love with her and how could she refuse her own feelings that built up over the years? They were adults now, and she finally acknowledged the brilliance of his pickup line as children. She accepted his proposal and they were married next to the rose bushes, sealed with the berries they fed to each other.

Caasi was over the moon and declared that he would bring her gifts. Among them were a chef hat and an apron, which Raven proudly wore. She was touched by everything he did for her and made sure to tell him how sweet he was.

Not long after the marriage, Raven gave birth to their first son, who she named Caasi Jr. He looked more like his mother, and they were both ecstatic to welcome him into their family. A year later, she gave birth to their second son, Sebastian, who was the spitting image of his father.

All too soon, their babies had grown up and Caasi and Raven had grown old and weaker from the years. As they talked beside the fire, she noticed their son Sebastian, now fourteen, holding a bow and arrow. He was speaking of a griefer but Raven calmly walked up beside him and asked what he was doing. She was about to tell him how he should be careful holding that when a nightmare unfolded before her eyes.

A scream rang out and Raven blinked to find her husband clutching the arrow lodged in his chest. Sebastian yelled his apologies while she immediately pulled the arrow out of Caasi and ran to find someone with a knife. "Knife!!" she screamed, but she knew it was too late as a man finally came running with a hot knife. She ran back to her husband and hurriedly told him that she loved him, hoping to give him some final comfort in his dying hour. "I love you too" he breathed out before he finally succumbed to his injuries.

Sebastian starved not long after and Raven stood beside Caasi's body as hers continued to grow even weaker. Her heart was broken to lose her family in such a way, but she vowed to live the rest of her life in honor of them. Before she died, she made sure to bury her beloved husband with the very rose he used to propose to her all those years ago. She died beside his grave, roses surrounding them both.
