Because that was at that moment the only way to get dung.. I think? It was the way I learnt it, so I guess that if it could also be with lambs, they would say that..
I think that it was then three ways:
1. Feed a lamb (get full grown sheep with hair)
2. Feed a sheep without hair (Get a sheep with hair)
3. Feed a sheep with hair (Get dung)
Maybe I am wrong but that is how I learn it lol.. maybe it was otherwise and people learn it wrong, I dont know, but the way to get dung was to feed a sheep with hair.

Thank you!
And now I feel bad because I unknowingly hindered the efforts of compost makers and shepherds
Sorry about that guys. I will make pies in a more responsible manner...

It's ok, as long as you learn. At least you were making pies,, which reduces greatly load on shepherd (those damn berry farms, sigh, I wish they weren't so grief proof). Pure mutton pies are the best ones - just add water to what's left after making compost.

And so now you only get dung from Fed Domestic Lambs? Feeding a full grown sheep -- with or without hair -- does nothing? Asking because I usually work on compost in cities and twice recently the sheep weren't pooping.

I believe that is the case just one poop when they grow then you should kill the older Sheep.
