What if a basket broke on use like any other tool. Sure it would come with it's drawbacks, but at least you could use baskets for storage without having to worry about them randomly exploding at some point down the road and scattering the stuff inside it. I feel like they should only break if you're actively using them. Yes, I know having them sitting holding spare carrots is TECHNICALLY using them. I just feel like it'd be a much better system and make storage and organizing more practical.
Believe you're right, but don't believe you can't be wrong.

Of course, that goes without saying. You make it seem like they're mutually exclusive. We could have both and things could be wonderful. If you're talking about using a box to hold 4 carrots or 4 thread...I mean, okay?...That just seems absurd to me.

Well sure, but you don't usually get to decide where corpses go.

Boxes aren’t portable and can only store four things, which makes them less valuable in comparison to a basket. But handcarts are useful.

I can see it now, stabbing a guy then asking "hey, can you stand right here for me before you go?" lol. Guaranteed results

So, no thoughts on whether this change would be better or worse? Well, this forum just keeps turning out to be a bummer

It's worse. You're going to quickly exhaust your supply of reeds.
Plus: it's unrealistic. I own a bunch of baskets. They aren't single use items. They sometimes get dusty from constant use. Do they break eventually? Yes. In one use? No.
To sum up: ludicrous suggestion.
Yum. Yum. Yum. Meh.

I never suggested they break in one use. And you mean to tell me that your baskets don't break down from constant use, but if you just leave them sitting there for a decade they will spontaneously combust? That, I find to be unrealistic. You put something in a basket one time or even just simply make it and never use it, leave it there for a decade, then it just randomly bursts apart?....yeah....
Like I said, it would have it's drawbacks; but I think it could be a better, and definitely more realistic, system if they decayed on use. Let's say it has a 1% to be used, and it gets 3, 4, or 5 uses. If putting something in and taking something out is a chance that it will be used, then you're averaging 150-250 uses before your basket blows up.
So let's say you get 4 uses at 1%. Then, after the forth use, it turns into a floppy basket (maybe also give this the ability to be thrown in a pit). And a floppy basket has 1 use (maybe around 5%) to turn into a broken basket. Now these numbers are just kind of spit balling, but I would personally like something like this a lot better. Which means (seeing as how everything goes on the forums) everyone else will hate it. But hey, at the end of the day, it's just a thought.

Ive seen this post for a while thinking to myself "what a dumb idea", but i just thought about it and said to myself yeah.
If baskets only broke on use but not by time. It would be easier to store things long term.
So it could be an interesting idea.
Be kind, generous, and work together my potatoes.

Exactly, and it would make it easier if you are resettling an old settlement, or if you find someone's basket in the wilderness. I think it's nice to know that things break because I'm actually using them. Right now if someone makes a basket, gets stabbed by a boar, and dies with basket behind tree, that basket will potentially never see use. Let's say a few generations later, maybe 12 hours, someone is cutting down those trees. He finds the basket, but it's all broken, having never even once been used. There are tons of other scenarios similar to this where these baskets hardly ever, if ever, get used. That just kind of sucks in my opinion.
Now sure, you lose the ten hours of "god basket", but I think that's a fair trade off. A lot of these baskets aren't even being used 80% of the time, they're just sitting there. Anyway, it probably wont be implemented, and I'm not saying it should, but it's nice to see that people can see the potential.
