The dystopian sandbox

I wanted nothing more than a sandbox where I could build in peace, undisturbed by tiny players screaming "F" and toddlers taking my sharp stone every time I turned my back. I found myself in a utopian space, surrounded by everything I would need to craft in peace. I quickly set up my kiln and fire, and snared some rabbits. I picked milkweed whether it was fruiting or not, knowing that no future generations depended on my responsibly using the resources. I got my forge going, but I started feeling uneasy. I realized I liked the challenge of raising a girl who would survive to continue the lineage another generation. And boys are so helpful once they're big enough to carry a basket. I dismissed the unwelcome thoughts and began to set up to start forging the iron that was just laying there.

Suddenly--another person! She cut down the tree keeping me in my sandbox, took one of my snared rabbits (which I figured was fair payment) and was on her way before I could say anything. I ran north after her, amazed that there were other people here. She cut another person's tree, and I went inside. "Hi!" I exclaimed. "What?!? I thought I was the only one here." "I thought so too!" "This is so weird!" "I know!"

I asked, "Are you new?" She replied, "No, but it's been a few months." I said, "Want to build something amazing together?" We agreed to combine our efforts and started up a kiln and forging in her sandbox. But she went away and didn't come back. Did she succumb to the snakes? I stood there, suddenly feeling the meaninglessness of my efforts. There would be no daughter spawning to use everything I'd crafted. I even began to miss the annoying kids who took my tools.

I suicided and started playing the real game.

Re: The dystopian sandbox

You could always bust others out, I've seen a whole town built by the tutorial people.
Make a cart and bring your tools north and you'll eventually encounter others. Free as many as you can and hope they free you when when you die.

Re: The dystopian sandbox

If that town is still alive, they should make a bell. Call other tutorial people and let them know it exists.

Milkweed no longer respawns no matter when you pick it.

Re: The dystopian sandbox

I build two 2 small and one quite big city in the tutorial with a lot of other guys. That was pretty funny. I wonder if someone saw the places outside if the tutorial?

Re: The dystopian sandbox

I noticed that the time spent in the tutorial doesn’t get recorded. I tried to show Jason a glitch from when I played in the tutorial, but I couldn’t find it in the recorded games folder.
