Fruiting trees ?

What about trees ? Such Figs coconuts or apple trees, or even cherry trees.

They grow slowly, over some generations for some trees, and they produce food slowly but are a good way to sustain late generations if planted in consequences (a lot) so people will be able to focus on others projects such as building. They will offer some supply so people can do other things.

Actual gameplay is to produce foods but in a stressful way. We should be able to prepare something that will be usefull for all futur generations and give them the chance to have a pause.

They can live mainly on trees production but have to be careful to use stock with cautious mind because a specific spiece produces food at a cetain season, so same time.

Re: Fruiting trees ?

Absolutely! The lack of fruiting trees has puzzled me.

I suppose that berry bushes fulfill this role by being multi-generational food sources with multiple uses.

Different fruiting trees in different biomes. Would be great. Apples in the greenlands, figs in savannah, maybe mangos in the swamp. It would be great to have these options for pies, of course!

Maybe, as a nerf, when planted, they take one or two generations to grow? Wild trees produce much less than domesticated trees. Maybe the domesticated trees need to be watered every generation or so?

I assume nut trees will come down the road at some point, perhaps olives as well. As Jason grows the tech tree we are inevitably going to need sources of natural or edible oils. If I'm understanding his vision of the food system, you might need oil for cooking as well.

Rubber/natural latex also comes from trees.

Re: Fruiting trees ?

Tree planting should be a thing. If it takes 2 hours to grow from sapling and maybe needs there to be no adjacent
trees, it wouldn't be imba but you you still leave something very useful for your grandchildren or whomever.

I think we should be able to to plant every tree in the game except the dead desert trees. Also I think it would be
cool if we could only plant them in the correct biome. The game checks tiles for temp so I know it can check tiles
just fine.

Re: Fruiting trees ?

Trees based by biome, perhaps?  I suppose they already are kind of...

Orchards would be amazing!  Imagine the pears, peaches, apples, cherries...

Or even a way to grow saplings for letterstock would be great.  (Unless I missed something?  Maybe we can already do that and I missed it...)

Re: Fruiting trees ?

Flint chip + sapling = baby sapling. You can plant it to grow a sapling. It is in the game already

Saw in other thread that it or something similar is planned. We gonna have
to wait but we can lobby for other stuff now. Gotta focus the powah wink
