Family tree is pretty sweet

I feel like the game should have had all the lineage stuff from the start but it's still a cool addition. It would be even better if we could see the cause of death and maybe currently alive people too, Maybe that's too much of an ask.

So many people with "F" as there final words, kind of depressing really.

Would be great if males got a way to contribute to the family tree. Adoption of nameless players could be one way. Bringing someone over with a wedding band, perhaps? That someone would show up in two family trees after that. Isn’t the game a lot about relationships with new people, after all?

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

Thanks!

Cause if death is not being logged in the family tree server except for if you are murdered.  That is currently not being displayed, however.  I will add the murder's name next week.

But if you are killed by a bear, that won't be shown.  The lineage server is a separate piece of code that isn't loading any object descriptions, etc.

If we condensed death by snake bite, wolf, bear, etc. into a single cause would it then be accurate to state the causes of death would be as follows:

* Old Age
* Starvation
* Murder
* Death by Other

If so, would it be possible for the lineage server to record and display these causes of death without necessarily reporting which specific object caused that death?

Or am I just making this even more complicated?

For now, I'm going to leave it as-is.... I spent almost a whole week working on it already!

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

The family tree is marvelous.  Thank you Jason!

Even if it sometimes tells me things I didn't want to know, like the fact that the little girl I was so touched to have named after me on my deathbed died three minutes later.  RIP, little Red.

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

Great Job so far Jason!!!

Please stay motivated.  I love this game.  Maybe a bit too much?  Lol.

I don't know if this would be immediately possible, but has someone suggested named graves?

As in, family & friends recognize recently deceased bones, but a random wanderer would not know?  And eventually the recognition wears off as the bones age?

Might be nice to know my daughter died in the wilderness or that my favorite uncle Bob died by the forge... that sort of thing.

Anyway, great game so far.

I'm looking forward to the future.

Thank you Jason. It is a welcome addition! I think it will be interesting to see how this could change stories that are posted here in the forum.

How do you access family tree?

Every time time you pick a seed carrot a penguin dies.

Yeah, I understand. Seeing murders will do just fine, You can check if your death was avenged or the murderer succeeded in killing everyone.

I've learned to sorta guess peoples cause of death, Like if several peoples final words were along the lines of "No food", "F" or "seeds" then it's safe to assume that generation suffered a famine. If they die young with final words like "Fuck You", "WTF" or "Why" then they probably got murdered. When my granddaughter died with the final words of "bear" then she probably got eaten.

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

Hey Baker, I read your signature and had to do a double-take.  I just checked out the family tree feature a few minutes ago and Alice (with those memorable last words) was my daughter.

Pretty awesome how this feature is helping to feel more of a connection to the game and other players.

The family tree is amazing! I can finally see how my family fared long after I had died.

Sweet, I'm always happy when one of my kids makes it to 60. Your daughters legacy will be remembered.

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

The family tree seems to be kinda buggy.  I'm seeing a surprising number of people right now who died of old age with "mother still living" next to their names, and "ancestor unknown" in their lineage.

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

Yeah.... It is still experimental, so Jason will probbally fix those issues as we go on. Right now though, apart from that, it is awesome that we can see our children and  family long after death!

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

I know!  It seems to be something that is tricky enough to create in the first place for there to not be some bugs to work out, and adding a cause of death is an obvious and instant desired feature, but since I think it's safe to assume that those will be worked out I'm quite enthused about all of it.

Oh, buggy or  not, it's still marvelous.  I'm honestly a little surprised by just how much it enhances my experience of the game.

Re: Family tree is pretty sweet

The family tree update is brilliant.  Seeing who came before and what happened to your kids adds depth and a sense of legacy.

Ahh yes this tree is amazing! When I died of old age, someone had murdered my whole family except one small girl. I Just checked the tree and found she got to live to old age and had children of her own- hope some of them got to enjoy all the bags i made!

I had the same experience in one life this weekend, the whole family was murdered.  I returned from a rabbit trip and all was havoc, I basically gave up and wandered off.  Turns out my little sister lived and had kids.  Made me feel sorta bad for giving up.
