I can't type

I just started playing for the first time, and I can only type a few letters at a time. Sometimes 1, sometimes 3, sometimes 6. I'm on a Mac. How can I fix it?

In this game you can type more and more letters as you grow. A child can't speak yet, so it only says one letter at a time. Unless you've got another bug going on, you'll see that as you grow older you get more room to type.
