What happens when two 21 year olds fuck?
By 42 they have a 21 year old kid, ready to fuck as well.
That is why 42 is the answer; without life, there are no questions, no answers.
You have to reproduce, and at no point is it more obvious that your reproduction has been successful than when what you reproduce, reproduces as well.
Everything else is secondary.

Life started without reproduction.  If no organism reproduced, then life may well start again after ceasing to exist a particular amount of time.

Sure.  There is no mystery to out existence.

If we didn't fuck, we wouldn't exist.

You and I are not our parents, nor the whole of humanity.  If our parents didn't reproduce, we wouldn't exist, yes.

We, the most amazing life in the universe ...

With how little we know about life in the universe, what basis is there for believing humanity the most amazing life in it?  I don't know of any, and it smacks of human arrogance.  There also exist plenty of amazing ways that some life exists and survives in environments that we can't or need extreme measures to function in at all.  I simply don't regard humanity as the most amazing life form in every respect, and I think there's an under appreciation of other life forms implied by such an assertion.

Reproduction will go with an abundance of negative states for the new individual eventually.  And probably more negative states than positive states overall.  There is no reason to reproduce ever, and no shame whatsoever in not reproducing as a result of that.
