I think the loom clothes have been and remain more popular than other chest and bottom pieces.
Bowler hats might be more popular than other types of hats also.
I think this has some clues inform about why players wear clothes in game and their preferences.

You see those types of clothes because they don't decay like others, else you would see tons of clothes everywhere.
Ease of creation + nondecaying = abundance of clothes of one type.

Ease of creation for a button down shirt and a skirt though? I mean the process is simple enough, but the time investment is years of gameplay, especially if you have to grow berries and carrots yourself. I would guess that hunting 4 rabbits is usually faster (and yes, I assume a loom exists), though I don't have numbers.
I agree about the decay part.
