Why do I need to give out so much information to buy the game?

I really like the premise of this game, and am very interested in buying it. However I'm really not comfortable giving out my mailing address and full name to get an online download. I just find it super unnecessary, is there any real reason for it?

Its the billing information. Anytime you purchase something online you need to provide this info. No one can see this info after you purchase it other than the person who sold you the product

Re: Why do I need to give out so much information to buy the game?

Just to give a bit more detail (since I've had to build payment systems before): credit card processing companies require that personal information as part of their fraud prevention.  The idea is that it is easier to get the card details than your other personal information.  So if someone manages to steal your card, they won't be able to make a purchase.  Well, that's pretty crazy, of course, because most credit card thieves steal credit card information from computers these days and they get all your details.  So I'm with you that it's completely unnecessary.  Of course having a key-less payment system is completely bonkers in the first place and so we have to doubt the sanity of banks to begin with.  But the fact remains that they want it.

Having said that, you should pay attention to who is getting your information.  You will notice that it is fastspring.com that is asking for the information, not the bank.  Visa has their "3D secure" program where they get your personal details.  I think other credit cards have similar things, but it's been a while and I'm not sure.  There is no reason for a payment processor to take private information.  Fastspring's privacy policy is here: https://fastspring.com/privacy/  Paging through it I notice that they sell information for their "Ecommerce Network".  So you are right to be concerned.

I have noticed that they intend to be "fully compliant" with the GDPR on May 25th.  They claim that they will add opt-out buttons and clear terms and conditions, but it's unclear to me whether or not it will be generally available or only to EU customers.  You might want to wait until then.

You can always lie. Assuming you are paying with your own money, no one is going to really care. Don't lie about your email address though since that is how they send the information for the game.

I don't see anything there about them selling information.  The "Ecommerce Engine" is the payment processing system.  That is the system that I'm using to process your payments.

In terms of "partners," I'm an example of one of these partners.  They process payments for me, and I have access to all of the information that they collect.  I can see your name and address, for example.

As far as I'm aware, they are not selling your information or using it for any other purpose other than to prevent fraud.

They are taking 8% of every sale.  They are making plenty of money.  They don't need to sell your information to make money.

Why not accept bitcoin/crpyto? You dont need to pay someone 8% and you dont need to ask for any personal information.
Also its super easy to make a wallet and just copy and paste the address.

Cashing it out is a bitch and a half and rapidly fluctuating prices can make it tough..
Value went from 8,860 to 8,800 in the last hour... bigger jumps arent unheard of.

I am not an expert on this, but I think you could write a bot that sells your crypto as soon as you get it.
All the major exchanges have apis so you can write bots for it, that automatically sells to fiat and transfers it to your bank account if you reach a certain level. (for example)
You would need to pay fees for the exchange, but i think they are much lower than 8%
But this would take away time from the development of the game so maybe its not a good idea
