Newb Baby booms! Jason please read

The game is so hard to play right now.

This happens everytime the game is on sale with the arrival of a bunch of new players. I feel like the real problem here is that only a few families get terribly spammed with too many babies, because the town is advanced (diesel pump well or newcomen well), but now the food has less value as the generations go so advanced towns means you have to yum and new players dont know or properly understand how it works.

On one hand the experienced players can't even feed all these unproductive people, or do anything else than working food like madmen (I brought 5 turkeys to town they were eaten as fast as they were cooking in oven). If you happen to be a woman you keep having babies non stop so you can't really do anything past 14 until 40.
On the other hand the new players feel useless and clueless as to what to do. They need guidance that we just can't provide because we need to be productive and there is way too many of them anyway.
This is not an enjoyable experience for them or for us.

So the solution for us would be to let most of the babies die. And that's not a human thing to do! We are not wild animals, we are dumb enough to sacrifice ourselves and everyone for our kids! It's not nice to the babies even when they understand, or for the people having to dispose of the bodies.

Now I'm sure something can be done to fix this! Tweak the spawns so they are spread a little more equally between Eve towns and advanced towns? Maybe new players could get a certain amount of hours where the food values are way higher so they can have some time to learn how they can contribute. I really think this is an issue as their first experiences are not really good and don't really represent what the game is like/about.

I was also thinking about something like a Job board where players could go to assign themselves a job or check what jobs need to be done (would be REALLY nice to organize ourselves) and the new players could pick a job they want to learn and the board would lead them to the worker assigned so they could teach them or just to learn by watching.

Also unrelated but I am really hoping to see one day railroads being reworked a little bit, would love to see a proper train connecting towns and transporting people as well as cargo and faster than it is now.

Thank you for reading, I know you have a lot on your hands right now so I don't expect a lot, but I hope you will consider making some small changes in the future to make the game more enjoyable for everyone when it's on sale.

Best Regards.

Easily solved if families had a population cap. More families with less people creates a more stable experience.

Or if individual mothers had a baby cap to prevent one woman becoming the mother of millions.    This would also have the effect of giving experienced mothers more time to teach their new children.

It’s been a while, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but is there not already a cap of four per-mother?

The cap is four living children prevents another birth when possible.  I think that means that players still can get more children if no other fertile mothers exist and no more Eves come as needed (though I don't have an idea what 'come as needed' exactly, other than not having different race specialists).  Also, if one has three living children, one can still get twins, triplets, or quads even with the cap mechanics preventing future births to that woman.

I think lowering the server cap to 180 and making baby distribution a little more even should be enough to fix this.

It seems like a dramatic problem right now, but They'll get better soon. Don't over do it.

The problem with the mother cap is it only stabilizes the responsibility of each mom. It however does nothing for the stability of the family or town. Lets say two mothers have four babies each, they all live to birthing age. Then all 8 of those kids have 4 babies. A 3rd generation camp from a fresh eve has no chance of supporting 40 people. This isnt likely to happen given males would likely be born among those 8. But you can see how it can snowball quickly without some type of cap. Especially with population spikes.

I will third this.  If it's a living player cap, there would still will be some variation due to the nature of people, and twins+ logging in and joining a family.  Probably would make it easier to balance the game also, which I think has always been a difficult problem.

I think a good way to balance this with the new spawn change at 60 would be to have a buffer. Basically lets say the total cap is 20, spawns would be pushed to other families if the population hits 15. This way it would leave room for folks who lived to 60 and wanted to spawn back into that same family. Only locking them out if all of the buffer space was filled by others who used the old age respawn mechanic.
