I played with a newbee today.
his response to the game,
Backpack is hard to click on.
controls are hard
could Vanilla use the Hetow WASD movement and shortcuts?
Q- backpack use,
E - eating/use on you for clothes,

Is there a reason for wasd not to exist in Vanila?

Pretty sure it is the same reason why Vanilla doesn't have zoom.

It might be beacause of the too many clicks overflow the server memory or something. (wasd movement is constant 1-tile clicks)
BUT!
there is no reason to not have backpack Shortcuts and other useful staff besides movement.
Shift+Q - cycle through backpack invetory.
C- pick up a bb
and more

Simplicity is always under rated by those looking for complexity.
Vanilla being simply point and click, hold, and click something else, the old, A+B=C+D, is a very simple thing.
That said, I love games where I move with WASD, but, I also appreciated QWOP and games that spit in the face of control tradition.
It is what it is.
Mods exist.
