Re: Make Seed Farm

Yeah, that idea has been useful so far. In a town I recently was in, the seed farm was within a fence just next to the official farm, and we taught all the kids that the second farm should only be used for seeding.

The fact it was enclosed by a fence with one entrance naturally gave the people the idea that it was for seeds, without having to tell them, interestingly.

Re: Make Seed Farm

When I do this strategy, I make it a point to spread a few small plots on all sides of the town. That way if someone accidentally picks the seed carrots on one plot, their are other options nearby.

Or focus your farming efforts on gooseberries and you'll never need a seed plot again!

Re: Make Seed Farm

Yeah, putting a seed plot or a few away from the main farm has been the best method. People always end up eating the seed crop.

So you just eat berries?

Berries are for compost. and berries dont grow that fast. so if you ate all of it you prob starve to death. because it takes a long time to spawn new berries

That's what we all thought! You don't need compost to maintain a berry farm, unlike a carrot farm though.

If society shifted from their carrot centrism, we'd all have more spare time to do other tasks. Berries take less work to grow, and about 25% less water - meaning a lot less farmers. The main downside is that a berry is worth 0.75 carrots, so you'd need 25% more storage if you only farmed berries.

I was doing some maths trying to work out the difference in efficacy between berries and carrots, and gooseberries are a clear winner in most scenarios. I still support carrot farms, but not as people's first choice in food. They should be either stored (superior to berries), or used in compost for wheat (rabbit pie - best pie).
