WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

If you experience:

--Apocalypse white fade out

--Never returns back to normal and you starve due to white-blindness

Then I want to see your stdout.txt file!

Please ZIP it up and email to:

Note this will only contain the info if you quit the client after this happens and send me the file right away (it gets overwritten each time you run you client).

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

This happened to me last night, but I've played games since that time, so it is gone.   If it happens again, I'll send the file your way.

With me, it's not forever but it lasts longer then it should. But I can use zoom out to see food and it goes away eventually. I notice alot of people starve during the flash.

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

Even with zoom, my whole screen was white and remained white until I died.   In hindsight, I should have logged out and logged back in.   I might not have died if I had thought of it sooner ... or maybe it would have still been white, I don't know.   By the time I got back in, I was already dead and got reborn.

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

Wonder if the server network is bogged just sending people the new map.

Server sends you the new map and then after that an Apocalypse Done message, which has you client clear the white.

I've only tested it locally with a few clients, not with 40 online.

Hard to test with 40 peeps without making everyone angry!

Maybe I need to hold off hunger for a bit after the apocalypse.  It would have to be a fixed time, not a client-specified signal, to prevent it from being exploited.  Like your first two minutes post-apoc are hunger-free?  A bonus for your astonishment.

However... if you're hearing people walk around... that means that other messages after the map have gotten through, so I'm not sure what's up.

Are you sure the modded client is handling this correctly?

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

How long is the screen supposed to be white?

I don't have the stdout file since this happened a while ago, but last time I encountered the apocalypse the fullly white screen lasted for at least 12 seconds (maybe even longer, but I died after 12 seconds from starvation). There was the apocalypse noise, the screen started getting brighter, and 18 seconds later I was dead from starvation. It seemed kinda long at the time, but I just assumed that's how it was supposed to be. I also heard a horse walking around right before I died - I assumed it was my horse cart running away, but it might have been a wild horse?

I have it on video in case it helps, timestamp 50:20 (https://youtu.be/NDdgBIHgb-8?t=3020). No mods whatsoever, running through Steam.

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

I haven’t relaunched my client since that night of the apoc. I sent my stdout.txt along to you. I hope there’s something useful in there (a quick glance indicated some messages about the Seasholtz family dieout, so there is a chance).

Also, I was using the awbz mod, so it could very well be that the mod isn’t handling the apoc correctly.

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

Thanks for the output.  I'll look.

Twisted, it's supposed to last 8 seconds (the server allows 8 seconds for the clients to fully fade before it starts changing the map).

However, sending out all those map changes at once may be bogging down the network.  18 seconds isn't insane, and I should definitely add a non-starvation window of at least a minute around apoc.

However, if there's a real bug beyond that, this no-starve window will just make it worse for people!

For what is is worth, I also use awbz for the zoom-zoomz.

Re: WANTED: stdout.txt log from failed apocalypse whiteout

Whoopsy....

The server waits to make sure every client has gotten the map and update messages....

EVERY client, including disconnected clients.

Of course, disconnected clients are never sent anything!

So if there's a disconnected client during the apocalypse, the whole thing will stall for everyone.

Once when the apocalypse happened my screen went white for a while. Good thing I was near a banana plant.
