Well the wolf gets shot in it's back, so it still has it's teeth.  It's still moving around when it's a 'shot wolf' and not a 'dead wolf'.  Not all weapons cause instanteous death.  I think it makes sense.

I've seen this on Twitch.  Maybe it's because the venom got touched?  But I'm not sure that venom would get into someone's blood stream just from touching it.  So, I don't think this makes sense.
