Right now meeting other civilisations usually ends up in murder sprees and theft, or sometimes a fun experience but without any depth or actual purpose.
What if meeting other civilisations had a deeper meaning and was even necessary for long term survival?
If we had professions the game could look like this.
Eve run/starting village: Low level skill but abundance of ressources
Advanced village/big city : Limited ressources but much higher efficiency
How does that give a purpose to meeting other civilisations?
You would gain skill by doing a profession but also from your parents, being born from only a mother would give a very limited amount of skill and becoming expert would take so many generations that the village would be dead by then.
The only way to pass down skill as a man would be to marry someone and that would only be possible with a woman from another lineage.
Not meeting other civilisations would have the consequence of the tribe staying low skilled/average and wasting a lot of ressources which would mean death of the lineage in the long run.
