Re: Dreams Deferred

I dreamed of cities actually dying out and not just temporarily being vacant. We don't always get what we want.

There have been a bunch of different proposals, but the key idea is that if a man is married to a woman and she has a kid, that kid is his too on the family tree. This would open an aspect of the game that I love (playing to see how long your decedents can last) to people playing as guys.

If you were limited to only choosing a partner who had a different last name it would give people a reason to travel to other villagers and create interesting tension in counterpoint to the current "kill the outsider" vibe we have going now because of swords and language.

I rather like the languages. I'm ambivalent about the swords.

I do think we need a *positive* reason for outsiders to seek out towns since trade isn't really a thing and won't be for a bit.

And right now there is no reason to consider trusting someone who just shows up in your town unless it's a woman and you really need people badly.

Another idea is if marriage would "decode" languages for the people who got married or their kids. I think feignedSanity dislikes this since she thinks it'd mean less language learning in-game (I think you'd still have to learn words anyway, most people probably won't bother with marriage) But this part isn't really essential.

I think that sums it up.

Also *shameless self bump*

Hmmm, I count about 14 or 15 people (not including myself). Damn, I forgot only 25 people play this game -_- You right, man. This is definitely not a minority.

Re: Dreams Deferred

You mean dreams "deferred".  As in, dreams that have been set aside.

I originally thought you actually meant different dreams... a lot of us have different dreams for this game than Jason does.  This race war update really takes the cake for that, IMHO.

And that's ok, we have different dreams.  We play the way we want to anyway.

I just had a conversation with my siblings where we talked about how the area ban plus four families in the same area, means that we really sorta ought to kill them off- if we want our families to grow and work together without language barriers.  But we also all three agreed that we didn't want to play that way.  At ALL.  So we didn't.

So now, instead of pro and anti-apocalypse factions, we'll have pro and anti-race war factions.  I've already seen that come to a head once.

Re: Dreams Deferred

Oh thanks. I've never been great at spelling and appreciate it when people point out errors. LOL.

Yeah I'm not out for OHOL THUNDERDOME edition, really. It's not exactly fun.

Oddly the apocalypse has never bothered me much.

But you know not many people like to play on empty servers other people make this game fun. If you wanted to have all the resources just log on to an empty server and you win.

You can kill people to get rid of them, but where would be the fun if they stopped coming back?

And more to the point you can't get much of anything done in this game alone.
