Japanese OHOL

I'm Thexus, and I manage the translations for the game.

Recently, the mobile version came out, and it has Japanese translations. They are willing to work together and send me the Japanese translation files if I can prove that I can hack the client and host a hacked server that can work with unicode.

The problem is that I only made the game display fonts through injection, and not actually with unicode, so with my translations, you can't type special letters. To fix this, I need to make the game recognize unicode, and then host a server that can work with unicode. Fortunately, the Chinese translators have already made a hacked client (https://github.com/cnwillz/OneLife), but I will have to ask them about the server.

If you can help us, please contact us on Discord: https://discord.gg/nSvp4he

If everything goes well, we will also be able to translate the game into Hindi, Hebrew, Korean, Greek, and other languages that don't use a Latin alphabet.

Re: Japanese OHOL

You're asking the dev of the game to help translate the game for the people that copied his game?

Re: Japanese OHOL

I think he is asking about getting the desktop version in other languages. It sounds like the mobile developers are willing to supply their translations which would make it easier. I don’t know if Jason has any desire to add multilingual support but it would really help expand the audience.

Re: Japanese OHOL

Jason made this thread concerning his desires regarding other languages when the mobile version came out and was being discussed.

I doubt Thexus is trying to get Jason's attention. Rather it's more of a help wanted sign to the general community.

Re: Japanese OHOL

As I said, I manage the translations for the game. We have translated the game into German, Hungarian, Spanish, Russian, French, Catalan, Chinese, Polish and a few others. I know Jason's mindset about the translations, so I won't be able to make him rewrite his game to support translations.

As for Floffy, while I don't agree with their ways of making money, they hired an agency to translate (our work is purely fan-based), and they are willing to share their translations if I can prove that the game can actually use them.

And this thread shows that noone reads the translation forum, so noone knows about the translations.

The Chinese still haven't replied, so help is still welcome on the Translators' Server.

Re: Japanese OHOL

It will likely be tricky to get unicode working *and* also maintain a patch as things move forward.  However, having a Japanese translation is something that I'd like, so I'll try to throw some time at it.  The main problem, I guess, is that I don't do discord.

Is anyone working on the task already?  If not, I'll at least try to scope out the work to see what needs to get done.  I'm actually hugely busy, so I doubt I'll be terribly useful, but you never know.  My userid can be contacted at gmail if you want to get in touch privately.

Re: Japanese OHOL

I would prefer discord, since we can upload files and communicate in a chat format. And as I said, the Japanese translation is done, we just need a way to implement it, but I would appreciate if you could look through it, maybe change a few words to make them sound better.

Re: Japanese OHOL

Dammit Jim, I'm a programmer not a translator :-)  I speak Japanese, but I wouldn't trust myself to translate anything from English to Japanese.  No, I meant working on getting the client and server to be able to represent unicode.  This is a massive job -- bigger than the translation work by far.  If nobody is working on it currently, I'll just do my own thing and point you to the results.  Like I said, I can't guarantee any meaningful contribution, but I will at least look at it and try to create a list of all the places in the code that probably need to change.
