Does the map ever reset?

Does the map or the servers reset? All structures and everything are wiped?

Re: Does the map ever reset?

Not so far (after release), and I don't believe there is a plan to.

Re: Does the map ever reset?

There have been stories and legends of biome changes, tile by tile. But no. Ultimately, anything you make and place into the world is there forever. It's kinda weird to think that some joe schmoe could be using the same exact hammer I made a few days ago.

Re: Does the map ever reset?

maybe a wipe is possible when there are way too many structure and too many boxes of food that the server is unable to support, otherwise, I don't think Jason has any plan to reset the map just to make his point about non-renewable resources.

Re: Does the map ever reset?

After reading some of Jason's posts I dont think he intends to wipe servers. He seems pretty adamant on the idea of the "evolve or die" theme and caring for your world lest it become barren, and if it does, "move onto greener pastures".

I like this idea, that some players will have to step up and start reseeding and replanting the areas, and filling the empty ponds back up with water to restart life in the area, or, move on and recolonize somewhere else.

Re: Does the map ever reset?

Rather than a server wipe, I think we may see more decay on things that are today permanent. But this is a balancing act: some resources are not replenished (Reed, wood) so making things they produce non-permanent has to be done cautiously. I read somewhere that untouched objects were erased after a long time but I don't know how true it is.

Re: Does the map ever reset?

Jason did mention the possibility of a server wipe to make it playable again, at least on the laggy ones. Having said that, he did conduct a test with some people and gathered some data which will hopefully help identify the bottlenecks.
