Usually one of the little kids or a vengeful baby who was salty about being abandoned.

I do this.

Every. Time.

You wanna abandon me?  As a present, I will leave you a friendly bear who just wants to snuggle.

For what?  They had no choice to have you or not.

And besides, they run of just to poke the bear, before they can be named - pure dickish move.

I poke bear only when I have been clearly abandoned.

That's the risk you take when you choose to abandon your children, especially near a bear cave.

I would agree that it's a dick move if they run off on their own accord just to poke the bear.  That's nonsense.  That said, older settlements who are near bear caves should be bear-proofing their town (i.e., make the bear cave inaccessible somehow).

I poke bear if I can't find snek.

Dieing to starvation is less fun than by animals.

Also if you have bears nearby MAYBE don't abandon your kids, you gonna get beared.. cool

I had exactly this thing today.  Was hunting rabbits.  Kid pops out.  I feed him once and go to grab some food.  Kid runs to poke close bear cave.  I've tried to name his grave to cruse him, but unfortunately it doesn't work.  Didn't do any real damage, but still dickish move.

I'm not talking about older settlments - that's trivial.  I'm talking 2, early 3 gen camp.  Bear cave was fairly close, so I made a bow, first arrow, two more in progress.  But kids kept popping out and I fed them.  That slowed me down.   One of the brats that I fed probably poked the bear.  Scumbag.  I tried to lure the bear away but he hit me off-screen - lagging server or smth.

Any ideas for defense early on?   Bears are laughable later on, but milkweed and time for bow and three arrows is very expensive in early camp.

I didn't and still got beared.  Killing them all is safer...

Re: Any way to track who let the bear out?

I think only real defense is leading the bear away. If you tempwalk and you get a perfect temp to
hold you can get the bear lost decently far from camp.

Granted if you mak-babi while you are running it might mess you up.

I never even tought about temp walking in this situation.  I can lure bear away while foraging and making another arrow.  Hmm, so maybe only lag spikes on server are real problem.  I literally got killed with bear off-screen.

Still would be nice to know who poked it.  That's pure griefing.

I have been building trash pits around the bear caves.  Takes smithing for shovel, but it does the trick really well.

Damn, I do that every time, but never actually notice that it was a serious threat to my -disgraceful- mothers and their relatives. But then, being abandoned near a bear cave happens very often with an Eve running for a spot, so she might settle far away, anyway.

Cobblestones plus bear cave should close it up

But then you wouldn't be able to play with the bear! And bear like playing too. Sometimes they are a little rough and bite, but hey, they are only playing!

To te record: I only let bears loose if people abandon me without reason. Even if they say something like "Sorry" it is okay for me, but you don't plop me out and run away without saying anything. Or else I let the bear play with you!

Does it need one trash pit or three or what?

Anyway if I'm already smithing, then I'm making bow and arrow already for goose.  So just 4 more milkweed for 2 additonal arrows will bear proof the village.

Yeah, if I am abandoned I am not sure why I should care about the people who abandoned me.

Re: Any way to track who let the bear out?

I generally abandon 3-4 kids a life time. If i could support them all i would, but sometimes you just can't.

It really upsets me when as an eve i have three grown kids, and very little food. Then some dick i abandoned because theres not enough food brings a bear by...
