Re: Bells replace home marker

This shouldn't happen...

Home markers are in a stack, with the latest-created marker on top.  When you remove a marker (destroy it personally), then it is cleared from the stack, and the next-newest marker takes over.  Thus, you can set temporary outposts while mining or whatever, and when you're done out there, you can destroy the outpost marker and then get an arrow pointing home again.

Bells do set a marker, but an "ancient" marker, which is always at the bottom of the stack.  You have to clear all your other markers to follow the bell.

If you create a new marker after hearing the bell, it will "cover up" the bell arrow.  Once you clear that marker again, the bell arrow will come back.

Re: Bells replace home marker

What happens if somebody else removes your marker and then you hear the bell?  Or you hear the bell with active marker and then somebody removes your marker?

Same question about outpost markers.  Is it safe to use them if in the meantime somebody else removes you original home marker? Or what happens when somebody removes your outpost marker, how do you clear it then, to see first home marker?

I know that those are corner cases, but it's not described anywhere and people don't know how markers work.  They are afraid to cut someone's else marker, so you often see many of them planted.

Maybe this is what happened to me. Makes markers pretty unreliable in any event... if you ask me, one should be able to claim a marker by touching it.

Re: Bells replace home marker

Someone cannot remove your marker.

They can remove the physical post, but the notion of a "marker" is all client-side, so they won't remove your client's memory of where that marker is.

That's why a village only needs one marker, not one for each person.  Each person can reset the marker to make it their own.

If your marker has been removed by someone else, you'll still have an arrow pointing there.  To remove the arrow from memory, you have to remove the marker yourself, OR build a new marker close by (roughly on the same screen as the old one) and then remove that new marker yourself.

Thanks, that explains a lot.  It's probably good idea to put it somewhere on the wiki, so people can know how they work.
