Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Yes, it needs to get updated first, even when it works, new features of the game are not working correctly. So always use the mod that matches the current version.

Thanks for the report. People on discord confirm that too. Turns out it crashed in previous release because I probably fucked up something in oryginal code while applying larger FOV.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

What I would really like is a mapping mod, like Minecraft's Voxelmap, this way at least I can know how big a certain city is or where I am on the world map and could work on building highways between cities

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Any chance you would be willing to make a 1440p version? That would be very cool if its not too cumbersome to keep 3 versions updated

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Any specific reason you're not uploading the server binaries? not enough demand, too much work?

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Really enjoy the zoom out but I dislike the delay, lag and when I initially login to OHOL, it gives me a failed login warning.
other then that I think this mod is great but can be abused by griefers, since you're screens away from individuals now.

Not enough demand, although its not much work.

Sure, why not. Or possibly I'll just make "all in one" version where you can choose your prefered scale in one of setting files (zoomScale.ini ?)

Could you please elaborate on the delay, lag and failed login? I haven't heared about those.
Also, almost anything can be abused by griefers in this game.

Sounds cool.

I hope the zoom makes it into normal game.

I'm trying to update quite soon after official release on Friday. Worst case scenario late Sunday, early Monday.
It should never work after game update although people report it does sometimes. Full tutorial on how to DIY can be found here:

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

I hope you update it tomorrow, im too dumb to mod it myself and it's so hardcore without the zoomed out version. I played with a friend of mine as twins and always one of us died to some animal that we couldn't see in time. The lagging Server doesn't help there too. It's also very hard to run around together with the little vision you have normally. :S

I wouldn't play at all without this mod, thank you for your work! smile

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Updated to binary v125, data v124.

This update finally fixed the Yum and Curse display as well as Tutorial tabs (the top ones). They would align correctly now.
Still working on speach bubbles from far-away players to display correctly...

P.S.
Added video on how to use my OneLifeXcompile repository to apply FOV mod yourself.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Hi Joriom,

Thanks for uploading and updating this, this is awesome.

I was wondering something; I didn't see Jason react to or write about this anywhere (although I might have missed something obviously), but I was wondering if giving the possibility to players to adapt the format of the vanilla client to their monitor/preferences could be a thing? It doesn't sound to me like too much of an heresy and it doesn't seem too complicated to implement. Also, the fact that you have to update your files after every update is quite tedious...

Also, the recent client fix makes the zoomed out executables not work, currently. wink

(Btw, you spelled "oryginal client" on the first post, it catches my eyes every time I come here)

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

Alright, my bad. But then, this is just a reaction to what is tweaked by players/modders. What about the idea of implementing a display size feature in the vanilla game? The modifications seem not too complex as far as I know in Joriom's executables. It indeed is not perfect, as stated in the post you link, as the information sent by the server might not be enough to fill the screen, but this is barely noticeable in 1080p in my own experience (the white edges, when they appear, are rather far away from the character). And even this could probably be improved, I guess (more complex).

Beware of a few things:

1.  If you don't have enough resolution to support this, then all the graphics will be downscaled, which looks ugly and loses detail.  I settled on 1280x720 for a reason, because it will NOT be downscaled on pretty much any semi-modern monitor.

2.  The server is sending map chunks based on its understanding of the client's view area.  To reduce the volume of messages sent, the server cuts it as close as possible, and lets you get pretty close to the edge of your current map chunk before it sends you additional map information.  I expect that you will experience a lot more pop-in, of both biome ground tiles and objects, near the edge of the map when you run this mod, and even a slight spike in network lag will cause loads of pop-in.

The client has no control over what map chunks are sent, so it does not have the power to ask to server for information about a larger area.  Fortunately, because of this, this type of mod puts no additional strain on the server.  But implementing a larger view area that was pop-in-free would put a larger strain on the server.

1. Add screen size option to settings menu.
2. Pop in is fine, we've lived with it quite well so far.

Re: [DOWNLOAD] Windows Client with additions (updated over time)

I don't actually think I actually experienced the grey fog more now than I did before...

I think this mod should be the default setting, or at the very least a choosable setting. Every time vanilla is updated (and the mod falls behind), I'm reminded of how superior 1080p is compared to vanilla settings.

Just wanted to thank Joriom for his hard work putting this mod together every update, especially the versions that don't have a Bitcoin miner embedded.

Yep. Every even download has a Bitcoin miner, but odds are clean. Unfortunately because of this I won't be able to download the mod until next update :'(
